Looking for a little help with the lighting on my 99 tj. Issues are pulling headlight switch on the dash and parking lights flicker when the switch passes through the detent but turn off when get to the on position, pulling out switch fully only turns headlights on. New to me jeep with some obvious wiring repair at some point in it's life. I tried a new switch but same results... scratching my noggin and pouring a stronger drink while dissecting the underside of this dashboard....Anyone have this issue? Attached a pic for reference to previous owners repair work.

Here is the wiring for the Headlight Switch for a 1999 TJ. Maybe this info will point you in the correct direction. Also make sure all of those spade clips are making good connection.

Welcome to the TJ Forum. On the earlier TJ's with the dash switch like mine those particular aftermarket switches can be hit and miss on quality and the oem is preferred but the NAPA Echlin line are also decent quality.

Thank you, I'm just trying to cover the basics before I buy the second switch.. this was the upper class autozone version but I have noticed quality in most parts went to the wayside years ago..

I just replaced the headlight switch in my 99 as well. kept getting lights out. Odd thing is it has what feels like 3 positions. IIRC its first click the parking lights, second click a dead zone and 3rd everything works normally. It was sourced from Oreileys/masterpro brand. Personally, I think Napa electric parts are poor quality, Id have prefered Standard brand electrics. O'ripleys charges $50 for the Standard and Rockauto its $14 and its elk season I need lights now so I went cheapo and fast.

This is what happens when fuse 1 behind the glove box has failed. The contacts in the switch are swept and the power from the headlamp fuse in the PDC brushes the dash/park lamp feed as it's pulled out which is why the dash/park lamps flicker on.

Thank you, I'm digging in the fuse box now to see if there's an issue there
