Been smelling that hot engine smell, figured the valve cover gasket was leaking. Well i just seen today on the parting line of the head and block, above the oil filter, a little oil seepage? Whats the next steps?

Pull the head...

I suppose a compression test or leak down test would be the right thing to do.

But I'd throw a Felpro head gasket kit at it and some copper gasket spray and see if it sticks.

Do you spray the gasket before installing?

This was my thread from 2022 and 10k miles ago.
Like my RMS I wipe it off every 6mo…

So not an IMMEDIATE issue. Cool. I was not looking forward to pulling the head this weekend. No oil in coolant or vice versa. Ill keep an eye on it. I have a 2000 so i would rather wait to get a tuppy head before doing it.

That's what I did. FSM doesn't call for it but I decided to do it on the neighbors 04 WJ to make up for not doing any machine work.

That motor was actively spraying. So if you're not losing too much coolant and not overheating...

I’d give it a good cleaning and keep and eye on it, especially since if no oil in the coolant etc.

Yep,don’t spend a dime on the non tupy head.i finally had to change mine2002 not for a leak but a po301 code, tight valve guide.still not a hard job.

We used KW's Copper Coat spray on stainless shim head gaskets for small block Chevys. We never had a leak , but I also don't know if we would have if we didn't use the Copper Coat .
