Hardtop Penetrol question - vents

Hi folks....getting ready to Penetrol my hardtop. I have the early style top with the corner vents. For those of you who have done this, did you apply Penetrol to the vents, or work around them? I realize they are a different material than the top itself. Thanks.

I believe I put Penetrol on them. I know by looking back at my pictures that I definitely didn't tape them off like I did the top of the tub and the glass, so in any case, I at least wasn't afraid of getting any on them.
