I made a deliberate choice to run 4.56s after 20 years running narrow 33s with 4.10s on a 4.0L/NV3550 with some light tuning and mods. Hit my goals and I'm happy with this gearing. No plans to go to 35s.
Well look hard at if you want your RPM's @ 2800 or 2950 when doing 70 MPH... The nice thing about going to 5.13's would be when towing and it'll give you that little bit more when going over a pass. And NO running your 4.0 @ 2950 won't kill it.. You can always slow down to 65 MPH too.
Heard. My experience with 3.73 gears on 31s while towing has been needing to be at about 4000 rpms in 4th if I want any chance of maintaining speed on a steep grade (think the hill between Pendleton and La Grande). That's about 75 mph and flooring it. If I dont hit that speed, I end up down shifting to 3rd and ripping at about 55mph. I'd like to be able to hold 65 comfortably.

Going up Cabbage @75 MPH in a Jeep would be "FUN"... But I used to drive it in a semi so doing it @ 45MPH was more my speed.
I used to have to be in 3rd with my 4 cyl & 4.88 gears w/33" tires & screaming at around 5K RPM's to come up Snoqualmie and it's not as long of a climb.
I guess what my take is from all the opinions being expressed here is that if you're spending the funds to regear then do it once and be done.. So based on that I'd shoot for the lowest gearing you can install into your axles.
I run 4.56 with maxxis razr 33x10.5 and run 2500rpm at 65mph with an ax15. I can still run 75+ easy when on interstate for distances. 4.88 is steep for 20+ miles of interstate...
