Hey all! My first car when I was 16 was a ‘98 TJ completely base model with not a single option other than the aftermarket wheels and 31.5” tires the dealer put on.
I’m picking up a 2004 model x Columbia edition, manual transmission, 4.0 engine with apx 90,000 miles this week. It’s completely stock with the exception of roof carrier for previous owners kayaks. I am super excited to get back in a jeep and for my kids to experience to share the fun as well.
Here’s a couple things I know are issues that I’ll need to address and appreciate any input.
- Soft top is cooked and needs to be replaced. Looking at the bestop sailcloth oem replacement. Are these still the best option out there when it comes to replacement top?
- There’s an issue with the fog lights coming on when the vehicle is off and key is removed. Sounds like a relay or replacement stock is in order.
- There’s factory subwoofer is also fried and the previous owner just turned the bass all the way and tolerated it somehow. I’ll look to either replace with a new factory sub or upgrade. Any suggestions on something easy that won’t be overpowering? I like quality sound but accept the fact that doors and top will be off the majority of the time, so might look at a modest audio upgrade when I do the sub swap.
This seems like a great community from the little lurking I’ve done and I’m pumped to be back in a TJ. Look forward to getting to know you all.
