Finally picked up another TJ

Well for 40% off I couldn’t pass it up. I know there are haters and winch snobs out there but it should do fine for what I’ll use it for. Just need to figure which winch plate I want to order. Thinking about the Smittybilt one.

Seems the recovery Youtube recovery guys have no issues with them and they use theirs a lot more than most on this forum.

Nice work on everything you've done, no complaints from here.
Sweet F100, love the colors.
That was a sweet deal on the winch.
Maybe you can swap all the parts you want from the parts jeep to your Jeep , then turn around and sell it to recover your funds.

I agree

Exactly what the plan is. It will still be a full roller that just needs an engine when I get done swapping everything. Solid body and solid frame so it shouldn’t be hard to sell. Has a clean interior with too

Actually had part of a day today and pulled all the axles and suspension (unknown 3” springs) from the donor Jeep. It does have an almost brand new set of Bilstein 5100’s, but unfortunately the previous owner painted them lime green lol. It also has the Rough Country heavy duty steering kit and the Rough Country forged front track bar. I’ll probably go ahead and swap that stuff over. Oh it does have the Rough Country dual steering stabilizer kit, but he painted those green too lol. I’ll probably just unload all of the green stuff rather than trying to mess with the green paint..

I did go ahead and swap the almost new 15x10 Fuel wheels and 33x12.50 Maxxis RAZR MT tires over to my Jeep just to see how they looked.

Got the grey “donor Jeep” rolled to the side using some car dollies, a couple of Jack stands and one of my sets of cribbing I built a while back when I was setting my truck up. Rolled pretty good and I wasn’t going far with it lol. I got the red Jeep up on the lift and the stock 3.07 geared axles pulled out. Need to get the donor axles cleaned up and painted. I’ll probably freshen up all of the brakes and then see if there is anything else they need before putting them in.

Also trying to decide between my brand new 2” BDS coils and rancho RS5000X shocks I just put on or the 3” (unknown brand) springs that came on the donor. It did come with almost brand new Bilstein shocks, but as I posted earlier the PO painted them green I guess lol. The donor axles do have the RC forged adjustable front track bar and the RC “heavy duty” steering setup I’ll probably go ahead and try.

It’s really not bad with the 2” BDS springs. It does have a little rake to it but I do have a set of Daystar 3/4” spacers I can throw on it to help with the rake. It really did ride good with the BDS springs and Rancho shocks with the 31x10.50’s. Here it is with the 33’s bolted up.

Thanks! I’ve looked at many of your posts and used the info, believe me lol. Looks great! I can’t cease just yet, I have two Jeeps in my shop with no axles lol. I just put the 33’s on before I swapped axles just to see how it looked. I really don’t plan on doing much more once the axle swap is done. I have a few things to freshen up on the interior, clean up under the hood, put the winch on, and a few other small details. After that I should be about “done”. The goal with it was never to be too radical. I just wanted solid and dependable with a little style sprinkled in!

Finally got some work done on swapping the axles. Sometimes I wish I was the type of person that could just pull the old axles out and bolt the new ones in, but I’m not lol. Been gathering a few more parts for the swap. Several of the control arm bushings were needing attention. Instead of messing with changing out bushings I just ordered all new Moog control arms. Much easier and less than $200 for all eight control arms. All new hardware for the control arms, track bars, shocks, etc. Went ahead and grabbed new rotors, calipers, and spring isolators. Also picked up new fluid and LubeLocker gaskets for both axles. I did grab new Moog axle bushings for the front upper control arms. The front track bar is the Rough Country forged adjustable track bar that came off of the donor Jeep that I cleaned up and got some new hardware.

Got the axles cleaned up, treated them with Ospho, painted them black and put the new front upper bushings in. Ignore all of the old bushing mess lol

Got everything put in today. I did get it back on the ground but still have some more brake bleeding to do and go over all of the hardware. I did decide to just stay with the 2” BDS springs and Rancho RS5000X shocks I had just put on it. I picked up the 3/4” Daystar spacers for the front and the OME rear track bar bracket I needed.

Bolted the wheels/tires up from the donor Jeep, was able to drive it out, and moved the grey Jeep over to the lift so I can get it back to roller status so I can get rid of it at some point.

IMG_5458.jpeg

Also needed to get the grey Jeep out from in front of the Truck so I can take it to Cars & Coffee tomorrow because they weather is supposed to be great!

Finally got the Jeep set up on my cribbing and torqued all of the suspension bolts down, brakes bled, and installed the Moog ZJ tie rod upgrade.

IMG_5844.jpeg

Also got my toe-in set, steering wheel re-centered, and track bar adjusted

IMG_5940.jpeg

Bolted the wheels/tires back on and took it for a shake-down run. Completely forgot about a speedometer gear but got one ordered and it will be here in a couple of days. The 4.88’s made a HUGE difference. Feels like a completely different Jeep!

Not that it will be going this fast on a regular basis but it will definitely do it! GPS speedometer:

Get rid of that track bar ASAP. Even rough country's cheaper version is better. Frame side bracket needs welded on to stay tight.

Hmmm. It has two 1/2” bolts that secure it to the frame bracket. Do they loosen up or something?

Mine wouldn't stay tight. It caused the only death wobble i ever had. I went with their cheaper model with a tie rod and bushing to fix that.but it kept bending in moderate offroading. I recommend jks or rockjock/currie.

I’ll definitely keep an eye on it. Thanks for the info!

Swapped the speedo gear to a 41T so my speedometer is back in line.

Also pulled the stock rear carpet out to get it cleaned up for the Bedrug I pulled out of the grey Jeep. Just need to clean it up and grab some new Velcro.

I picked up a set of the newer style TJ mirrors to replace the worn out stock ones.

Finally put my Bartact seat covers on too

IMG_6134.jpeg

I did throw the rest of the soft top back on. I’ve been on the hunt for a nice hard top but man people want BIG $$$ for them down here in Texas. So this is how it sits for now. Going to start putting some miles on it and see how it does.

Had a little surface rust where there had been some moisture under the floor mats on the front floor boards. I cleaned them up, treated them with some Ospho and then a couple of coats of paint

Went ahead and put down some sound deadened/heat insulation padding
