Damn. Great song, but that video... choked me up, but good. Those "soldiers coming home" videos always get to me.
I like Dwight Yoakam's version, which is actually a duet with Buck Owens, the original artist who first sang it. Good song!
This came on my playlist tonight and I couldn't help but smile. Such good music came out of the 60s and 70s.
I often think about some of the things I would miss most if society were to collapse tomorrow. Very high on that list is music. It can be so uplifting and set the mood for just about any situation. It invokes profound feelings and vivid memories of the past. You always remember where you were or what you were doing when the first time you heard that song. I see such beauty in good music. I think it's something that transcends our material world.
As a believer in Christ I have come to also believe that good music is man's way of singing out in praise to his Creator.
The last words of Johann Sebastian Bach were: "I played the notes as they were written, but it was God who made the music. Don't cry for me--I am going to where the music was born."
Amen to that.
