F$&%#g thieves

Squatch..... I've been trained in long range shooting. I can take a knee cap out at 1,000 yards. He'll never know where it came from. Just give me the word buddy.
Funny you should say that, as I was thinking I'd like to send whoever did this off with a very pronounced limp...

I guess things are what they are, I'll check out that video.

That's a pretty interesting chart, I'll admit. However, it's now four years later, so things may have changed somewhat. Anyway, don't mean to argue about it, Chief. Living in the area has a different feel than what the chart would indicate. That video is really worth the time. If you're at all familiar with the Seattle of yesteryear, I think you'll be shocked at what you see.

Are they aluminum? Damn tweakers love them some aluminum to scrap.

Hell, I live a couple miles out of town and they got me for a lawn mower and a miter/chop saw this winter. Low life garbage.
I had to stop and think about it, but then I recalled that they are actually plastic. I really do believe that it's someone else with a similar truck. Wish that made me feel better about it, but it doesn't.

I take charts and graphs with a grain of salt because they can be skewed. First off, if the administration of a police department is on board with skewing the numbers, there are creative ways of doing that. For instance, they’ll tell their officers to title a theft report as “shoplifting”. Why? Because shoplifting technically speaking isn’t a crime. It’s a method of theft. Therefore when the computers are consolidating data, shoplifting gets dumped. And yes, I’ve seen this done first hand.

Secondly, when it comes to violent crime, do you have a good hospital in your area? Probably. There are lots of folks who would be Homicide victims of it weren’t for these hospitals. Folks with gunshot wounds and stabbings whom the hospital saves. Therefore it’s now an assault and not a homicide.

And lastly, a chart or graph can’t quantify how safe you feel. A persons subconscious knows when an area isn’t safe. It picks up on indicators that send that “gut feeling” that makes you uncomfortable. If you feels unsafe, you probably are unsafe.

In 1990 I was stationed at NAS Miramar (yes it was a NAVAL Air Station then). I lived in the Mira Mesa area of San Diego and had a Nissan pickup truck with a pretty nice fiberglass shell on the back. Neighbor calls in the middle of the night telling me he sees some activity in our driveway. Roomates and I come out but too late. Theives had removed the four bolts that held the shell on and took off with it. The thieves left their tools behind, I guess they knew we were coming and left in a hurry. Ratchet and combination wrench both had the initials VHS engraved on them. For years I wished I could run into whoever VHS is.

I'm sure this is true but I think it goes whatever direction they want that day...

1) Crime is going down, look what a great job we are doing, we need a raise.

2) Crime is going up, we need YOU to pay higher taxes so we can hire more police.

3) Repeat.

Used to live in San Antonio. Beautiful city but "too close to the border" and I had two stereos as well as a very high-dollar (then) calculator and various other items stolen from my car on at least 5 occasions over 6 years. It's the number one reason I will never go back there.
We left the South side of Austin for the same reason...we saw it coming, and left just before it hit.

Thieves just about make me spit blood and I'm certain that, if I ever caught one, I'd end up in jail for what I did to them.
I had a similar incident in San Antonio. Damn thief stole a $50 radio from my car. Not a huge deal but they busted the passenger side window and tore up my dash to get it. I spent $150 to replace the damage and then had to still buy a new radio.

I had the custom fitted tonneau cover stolen from my '65 Triumph TR4 in the parking lot outside the mess hall (oh, excuse me, the Enlisted Dining Facility) at NAS North Island back in the late '70's. Talk about a niche market for thieves...

Dang man.. couldnt happen to a nicer fella.

Here are some ideas...

1. Check your local craigslist to see if anyone is buying or selling that stolen piece.

2. Check a popular dodge truck forum (cant be many) and see if anyone posts on the forum and lives in your town.

3. Reverse image a pic of the truck and see if any facebook profiles pop up. Filter by location, see if anyone is near you.

4. Look on google maps, satellite mode, for trucks that fit your profile in driveways near you.

5. forgive and move on

Similar to one of my "encounters". Totally screwed up the weather stripping on the passenger door trying to break in when the driver's door wasn't even locked (convertible).

Yeah, #5 is probably a good one to go with. But you will never get that "taste out of your mouth" 👿

@Squatch WTF That sucks!

Not sure if it makes you feel any better, but when I lived in your neighborhood, I came home one night with a friend after partying pretty late, to my house being broke into. They were stealing my guns, and they were shooting at us as we were running down the back alley to the police department. True story, although it was about 30 years ago. Hopefully it is better now than it used to be.

It used to be a downright scary place to live (Not much different than South Park area where I grew up). Sorry you didn't catch the little fuckers.

Which reminds me I need to get off of my lazy ass, and move my Jeep into the back drive!

LOL. I used to live in South Park, too! Now THAT was a sketchy neighborhood, for sure!

Thanks, Chief. I remember seeing the same vintage truck in my neighborhood just a couple days prior...one I had never seen before. It was pretty ratted out. Haven’t seen it since. If it was him, I hope he’s done! Looking into home security cameras. Opted for your #5 choice, btw...

And yes, I intended for the title to be totally capitalized, and have multiple exclamation points, because I am that pissed!
*(I see that the full capitalization and multiple exclamation points are automatically removed. Trust me, they were there when I typed this out!!!)

As I have watched the neighborhood go into decline these past few years, one of the things I've being concerned about has been theft. Well, today I go out to use my truck, and someone had stolen the headlight surrounds off it, mounting screws and all. WTF? It's a 29 year old Dodge pickup, for crying out loud! Who the hell steals parts off of those?

Can't imagine what the hell I'll be dealing with when the TJ gets parked on the street. Actually, it may have to stay in the garage. Coming out to find the Warn winch gone would push me over the edge...

You sure your wife isn’t messing with you? I’m still coming to see you if I can ever move out of TX.
