F$&%#g thieves

That really sucks @Squatch. I hate the low lives who think they can take other people's property. I know that Dodge truck is very dear to you.

When I was a grad student, I had a super cheap 50cc scooter. One day someone broke into the tiny locked compartment underneath the seat outside the local grocery store as I was shopping inside. I kept a dirt rag, a spare headlight bulb and a couple plastic bags there, that's all would fit anyway. They did not really anything but they slashed seat cover (probably in frustration). I was so damn pissed off that day.

That's makes my blood boil...Ive had a couple of cars broken into over the years and my cars never felt right after I knew somebody had been there taking stuff that didnt belong to them...I feel for you buddy.
Like @bobthetj03 said Id be driving around looking for one or asking at the local wreckers if they've had anyone asking for parts for an old Dodge.
(not being in the U.S.) are parts rare for that year ?

It's a terrible feeling. I live in what I think is a pretty good neighborhood and my Jeep was rummaged thru just a few months ago.

People suck

Are they aluminum? Damn tweakers love them some aluminum to scrap.

Hell, I live a couple miles out of town and they got me for a lawn mower and a miter/chop saw this winter. Low life garbage.

Sorry this happened to you. I totally empathize and sympathize with you on this. I thought Washington was one of the more crime free states.

I cannot stand a thief. I know most of them do what they do either because they are trying to support a drug or alcohol habit or they are young and dumb and want what they cannot afford.

In your case though, it would seem very random. If they are trying to fix up a similar truck, their are better ways to get the parts, probably relatively inexpensively without resorting to theft.

I’m in Florida and it’s not at all a low crime state. I have a fairly extensive house alarm system and about a dozen cameras around my property. Motion lights of all kinds too. And if that fails, Florida is ok with you protecting what’s yours as long as you felt endangered on your own property. So if I were to catch a thief, it would be hard for me not to get his attention so he were facing me, and I might even think he’s advancing on me when I give him some S&W justice. That would be a given if some damned tweaker ever entered my house.

So maybe you could invest in a couple security cameras and a motion light or two so if this happens again at least you get an idea of who or description of the co@@sucker. Best case if you catch him and exact some justice whatever flavor that tickles your fancy.

The better the neighborhood the less likely the kids are going to understand the value of hard work and the dollar, that's the pattern I've seen here in Los Angeles. Fortunately property crimes around here are down massively from the 80's when I was a kid.

The local lowlife who wacked a few weeds for came dragging his buddy into the driveway awhile back. Each were carrying a fabric half door for a TJ. They wanted to sell them. I asked how they managed to wind up with a set of doors. Oh, I sold my Jeep and these were left over. Cool, what year was it? Huh? What kind was it? Oh, it just like the ones you have here. Great, what model and year are they, any of them? Uh, don't know. Okay, thanks but no thanks.
I had someone offer me a set of new (at the time) Cadillac wire wheel hubcaps when he heard I wanted a set. $25 for the set, when they were selling for a few hundred dollars, regularly. Suspecting they were hot, I declined, and ended up buying some for substantially more, with a receipt, elsewhere. I just kept thinking of what that guy with his new Caddy must have felt like when he walked outside and found his had been liberated from his car. I wanted nothing to do with it...

Not rare at all. I already ordered some replacements. If I had time, I'd have hit a wrecking yard, first. Heading south for my son's birthday, and won't be back for a few days, so I just ordered some online.

It's time for a dash cam that is motion activated.
Only recently heard of such a thing. My guess is it was a one-time "I want those" hit. Sucks that I even have to consider hundreds of dollars in security cameras (home and auto) to protect what ended up being $50 in parts. That being said, I will be setting up security cameras around the house. Been considering it for months. This has motivated me.

Look up a video on YouTube called "Is Seattle Dying?". It's a one-hour documentary style piece that recently came out. It speaks about the conditions not just in Seattle, but of the surrounding areas, as well. It's quite the eye opener for those who haven't lived in or visited the area for a number of years. You should see the property crime statistics!

Used to live in San Antonio. Beautiful city but "too close to the border" and I had two stereos as well as a very high-dollar (then) calculator and various other items stolen from my car on at least 5 occasions over 6 years. It's the number one reason I will never go back there.
We left the South side of Austin for the same reason...we saw it coming, and left just before it hit.

Thieves just about make me spit blood and I'm certain that, if I ever caught one, I'd end up in jail for what I did to them.

It’s wrong.

There is a deep disrespect for others that goes along with stealing, along with a screwed up since of entitlement. In some cultures it’s dealt with extremely harsh.

Harbor freight sells a decent camera system cheap.

Keep the faith man. If anything , let it remind you of the person you are . They are losers.

Keep your chin up.

I don't know, looks like Seattle is much better than it was in the 80's too. I guess we all like to think of the past as better times. Sometimes I wonder if people want us to think things are getting worse than they really are.

I lived in Seattle from January of '84 until November of '96, and I can say with great conviction that Seattle has gotten worse. Check out that video. It was aired on television locally by one of the news channels, and they pulled no punches. I am not a fan of media, but I felt that they really nailed it this time.

Really appreciate all the support here, folks. I know that on the surface, it's fairly petty, and hardly worthy of such lengthy discussion. It's in the grand scheme of things where it gets important. It makes you wonder just how bad things have to get before they get better. I can only go so far in protecting my property, lest my retirement end up being a lengthy incarceration. I know I'd never take a life over "property", but I sure would've liked to be able to grace the SOB with a little downhome justice after catching him in the act.

As a juvenile delinquent myself, I hope it was just some dumb kids, hope it’s not a ongoing thing
