I was working on my Jeep late last night and every once and a while the evap was farting, I don't know how else to describe it lol. Then after a while it just went to sounding like someone slowly letting the air out of a balloon. I understand the tank is equalizing from being hot earlier in the day but in all my years I never heard anything like it before. There is no battery in it at the moment I just got the replacement engine installed in it last week and I put 5 gallons of gas in it to give it a test run. The entire Jeep was disassembled at one point and is basically all put back together now, It almost sounds like a pinched line or something but nothing I could see. I shook the purge valve around a bit and it stopped momentarily but started back up. Can they be taken apart and cleaned? I something sticking?

A bad Purge Valve will do that. Unfortunately there is no rebuilding them. Replacements aren't that expensive. Should be about $40.

I guess I’ll just chuck a new one in there. Why not I’ve replaced everything else at this point.

I know the purge tank is in the rear right on a 06, where is the purge valve ? do they leak the charcoal like the older one's and clog up the valve the same ? I know when I changed the valve on my 97 I changed the cannister too...

I’m dealing with the same thing, farting sound and whistle. I get a couple of evap codes too. Mechanic said he changed the purge valve and the second mechanic said it looked fine. I also did the charcoal canister and the fuel pump, still the problem persists.

Smoke test?

Smoke test?

I have done several smoke tests. Mechanic said it’s solid after changing the purge valve, then the charcoal canister, the. The fuel pump. Still it whistles sometimes while driving, then farts after it’s been off for a minute. Sounds like air is forcing its way out of somewhere it should be.

I've posted this in other threads, but I had a leak problem in my Evap system that my mechanic and I chased for 2 years. It turned out the the Schrader Valve for the test port was leaking. We removed it from the system and haven't had a leak since.
