Hello! I’ve had my 2001 wrangler for a little over a year now and have had a fair share of mechanic visits. I’ve replaced the engine, radiator, power steering pump, serpentine belt, and most recently the fuel detection pump. The check-engine light is currently off (got it back from the mechanic on Thursday) but the engine now sounds louder/different than even earlier today. Granted, I drove on the freeway between 60-80mph for about 20 mins, so I am wondering if it just might have been working harder today or if there is a more concerning issue. Does anyone have an idea of when to be worried about engine noise even if the check-engine light is off?

If it's not clanking or ticking loudly just run it.

Hold your hand around the joints in the exhaust... don't touch the exhaust...and see if you can feel exhaust escaping.

Or take it back to your mechanic and ask them to check...
