I posted a quote on here a couple of weeks ago from one shop telling me that my engine has 0 pressure on piston 3. I followed your advice and took it to another shop for a second opinion

They are saying the valve might not be stuck. The new shop says it probably needs a new piston ring on cylinder 3 since its getting about 25 psi. Going to cost at least 1.2k.

I have a brother that is handy and i can try to help but I'm worried that this could be a bigger problem since the shop doesn't know for sure until they take off the heads.

Is this worth fixing or should i look into getting a different engine??

Thanks everyone for the help. This has been really stressful and i just want to enjoy my jeep again haha.

Yeah I'd pull that head.

Watch DexJs on YouTube for some great easy to follow videos on down and dirty 4.0 rebuilds.

I'd start with ordering a Felpro head gasket kit. While the factory service manual doesn't require it... I prefer to add copper gasket spray. You should hose down exhaust bolts now with penetrant.

4.0s are the AK47s of engines. You can take them apart in the mud and they'll run fine.

thank you. Im going to check out some of those videos now and look into that felpro head gasket kit and figure out if i need any specialty tools for this. Sucks that i barely got to drive the jeep this year due to problems haha.

is there anything else that should be replaced while I am at it?

Maybe timing chain and gear - use a Melling. Maybe the water pump.

I'd get the head off and let's look at the valves and tops of the pistons.

No smoking guns then we pull the oil pan, pull the girdle and pull the #3 piston.

At that point you'll need a Felpro oil pan gasket. Optional install a new Melling normal pressure normal volume oil pump.

And then possibly pistons, rings, crank and rod bearings.

the jeep is a 2006
Congratulations, you have won a crappy OPDA and PCM! If you have an AT, the PCM is even crappier!

Check to see if the OPDA has LDI on it. If so, it's known to seize up or wear the cam gear and needs to be inspected at a minimum. Crown is the go to replacement.

If the PCM is OEM, it's going to die. Just a matter of when. Wranglerfix has the fix with a rehosted PCM.

Fill in your Jeep details in your profile.
