I need some help folks with my 2004 TJ Rubicon. I began to install a new ham radio. My wife bought me for Christmas by tearing into the dash to find where I was going to plug through the firewall to the main battery. I had not disconnected any wires or the old CB radio or the gauges from an old Rancho air shock system, I started it late, so I stop for the night only to the return to the garage a couple hours later to all the lights flashing all of them. Trial and error lead me to the dimmer switch on the turn signal. I rolled it back, and it stopped but now the whole dash is dead. Sometimes I can smell wiring no fuses popped , I have replaced the turn signal solenoid on the turn handle and I have replace the turn handle itself. I can hear clicking underneath the dash I install the new radio went back to the rear battery I have for auxiliary I must’ve hit a wire have no idea please help .

It sounds like there may be a wiring problem or a short circuit somewhere in the dash. Here are a few suggestions that might help you troubleshoot the issue:

1. Double-check your connections: Make sure that all the wires are properly connected and secured. Inspect for any loose or damaged connections, especially around the area where you were working.

2. Check the fuses: Even if they didn't initially blow, it's possible that a fuse got damaged during the installation process. Verify all the fuses related to the dash, radio, and lighting circuits. Replace any blown fuses with the correct rating.

3. Inspect the dimmer switch: Since you mentioned rolling back the dimmer switch, it's possible that it got damaged or is causing a short circuit. Consider checking the wiring and connections associated with the dimmer switch and replace it if necessary.

4. Look for damaged or pinched wires: Inspect the wiring harness in the dash, especially around areas where you were working. Look for any signs of pinched, frayed, or melted wires. Also, pay attention to any burnt or unusual smells, as this could indicate a wiring issue.

5. Seek professional help if needed: If you're unsure about how to proceed or cannot find the source of the problem, it might be best to consult a professional mechanic or an experienced HAM radio installer.

Thank you very much for your reply to my problem. I have a fresh cigar and heading for the garage now. Thank you very much. I’ll let you know how it goes.

OK, boys and girls, turns out that the ground for the dash is below the dash speaker on the driver side. Everything works great now. Thanks for your time.
