Electric window kit for a TJ question

He would never be able to drive a new C8 Corvette because of all the fetchers and new technology.

I had to move a guest's "modern" car from one side of my driveway to another. Pushbutton start. Hell, I've had others with pushbutton start years back, dunno what all the hubbub is about - but the damn thing wouldn't start. Sat there trying to start it for at least 5 minutes before I realized that this is America, and its an American car (Chevy). Americans love their interlocks - so stepping on the brake allowed the car to start - even though it was in park with the parking brake on. Whatever...

Rented a Kia Soul about a year ago. Had most of the modern crap on it. The only thing I didn't turn off was the automatic dimming headlites - even that was annoying at times as it would dim when it wasn't necessary, but I guess that's better than blinding oncoming drivers. The one thing that it didn't have that I really wanted to try was adaptive cruise. I don't know if I'd like it or hate it, but I'd like to try it sometime. Of course it had a gargantuan screen in the dash which I promptly turned off, along with the auto start/stop nonsense.

You know. I have a Chevy. If you don't hit the brake the screen tells you to hit the brake to start it. It's really not that bad.

Bashing new tech because you don't understand and haven't adapted to it isn't a reason to throw the towel in. And objectively, there is much more to an AC system than there is a window regulator and a switch. Your AC is more likely to fail before a regulator/motor goes out. If I lived in Alaska and had fucked up shoulders (the opposite of your ideology), I'd be a real sore bastard with a nice AC system in the subzero cold...

Never once gave thought to power windows, locks or AC in the TJ. I don't lock it. I think my TJ came with AC. Not sure, to be honest.

And the window crank has other uses...

Power locks are another answer to a question nobody was asking.

Cant fathom why you’d prefer manual locks or windows and no way in hell I’d give the power versions up in order to get the manual versions back on my vehicles that have power. Reaching across the vehicle to roll down the right door crank sucks, and in a 4 door vehicle it’s typically impossible. I see no downsides to power, as they aren’t typically a fail point.

I would never take them out of a vehicle that had them from the factory, but when I bought my last JK almost a decade ago I specified no power windows or locks. Never regretted it. Added factory half doors with soft uppers and never locked them.. hence no need for power windows or locks.

Well, similar to you not going out of your way to delete them, I also wouldn’t go out of my way to add them. Locks I don’t care as much about, especially on a Jeep. Windows would depend on if I had full doors obviously. But I’m mostly thinking genetically about other vehicles anyways. If I had a new jeep and had the doors on, then I probably wanted AC. If they’re off then it’s irrelevant.

On any vehicle that doesn’t have removable doors, no way I’d buy one without power locks/windows unless they were older and it was a hit or miss option, like my old Ranger. On a modern vehicle, I don’t think any even offer manual anymore but if they did, I would not go for that.

My TDI is pushbutton, if you don't step on the brake a picture of a foot stepping on a brake lights up on the dash in green. I actually like the PB start, It's the first thing I do when I get in, then by the time I've put on my seatbelt and closed the door it's already running plus it takes care of waiting for the glow plugs in cold weather.

As for power windows, I like them on my vehicles where I can't reach them but in a TJ? There's only 2 and the passenger side can be easily reached even while cruising, I don't see the point. On my truck I'll adjust the power windows often on long trips, it would suck to have to pull over every time. I also like to be able to zip them up quick when approaching a dust devil, which is common out here.

Less cost, less weight, easier to deal with, better reliability. I leave the windows down on my Jeep during hot days here in Florida - when I go to roll them back up, I don't have to have the key or anything. Just walk up, roll them up, hit the lock lever, and close the door! If the vehicle doesn't have them, they can't break, and I don't have to pay for them or to maintain them. And that's just relatively simple power windows/locks. The other bullshit they put on vehicles now is worse - FAR worse. "Something else to break" as my late mother used to say. I really don't see the point of power windows - door locks I'll concede the point, although I'd just as soon not have them. My real pet peeve is power seats. My old MBZ has them, and I hate the damn things every time I drive that car!
