As much as I know, yes.

Same here. The ones I am familiar with (GM Turbo Hydramatics) have a front pump driven by the torque converter, so as long as the converter is turning the pump is pumping.

I can also attest to this by the amount of transmission fluid I sprayed all over the place when I started the engine with a cooler line disconnected.
