Donut spare

What's sad is I've seen folks go weeks and weeks with the compact spare on
I was at a stoplight waiting to get on the highway and a Ford Fiesta (or Festiva?) pulled up beside me. I noticed a donut spare on the front, then when we got on the highway I realized there were 4 donut spares on it. I was doing 60 and that car left me behind. With 4 space saver tires that are rated for 50 MPH.

we had a mercedes GTR come in on 4 spares once. entire bottom of the car was destroyed by gravel.

Yep,inner city people(we will leave it there)will go to the yard and pull all the donuts out and buy em ,it’s probably the first time they get to run a set of new unused tires.

I think these were available on TJs. Pretty sure matching spare tire was an option on my 2002 X. Not really a donut though. 225-75-15

You are correct. I have a TJ with a factory donut spare and the original build sheet has it itemized as a 'COMPACT SPARE TIRE'. It is the same size tire but the wheel is narrower than the rest of the factory steel wheels that came on it.

sorry 9.5

My original spare like yours along with the mount apparatus on the tailgate together weighed 60lbs

My new Patagonia MT02 35x12.5-15 weighed 67lbs and a new alloy 15x8 wheel 14.6 so about 22lbs heavier.

An extra 22lbs on the tailgate might not be too bad it just wont fit because the tire would hit the oem bumper.

I had one of my old 33x12.5 tires come apart recently and it was a pain because it was a rear tire and I had to move a front tire to the back and put my small oem spare on the front because I have the factory no spin in the rear diff and 2 different size tires will mess with that.

I just went ahead and got a matching spare and it just fits where the back seat was on my 2 door. I have it strapped down to the steel seat mounts until I can get something made.

Im going to have a frame made that bolts where the seat mounts are with a plate on it that I will bolt the original spare mount to and the mount my spare to that.

The framework I have made I think On the drivers side I will have them extend it up and make a hinged tray that will fold up vertical to the side when I need to get the tire out and normally be folded down that I can strap a small ice chest to because that tire takes up all the room in the back.

That is just my experience with having a small spare and having to use it.
