. My neighbor was walking out to get in her car and she saw a minivan approaching so she waited for it to pass but instead he ran into her car and pushed it into her. The van rode up onto the car and flipped onto it's side. There was no reason for him to be that far over, there was no oncoming traffic and the road is wide, he claims a dog ran out in front of him but after showing the police video from 3 cameras there is no dog, no swerving, and you can see him too far to the right as he is approaching the parked car, He was a kid driving his grandma's minivan. My neighbor (who spent the night in the hospital) was beat up pretty good and has a broken ankle and shin and some road rash. Lucky it wasn't worse, the van came very close to her head when it passed over her.

Here's the van. The posted speed limit here is 20 MPH by the way due to this being a "Bicycle Boulevard". Hard to believe that happened at 20 MPH.

This happened yesterday across the street from me. Video is private

Out of respect for my neighbor I'm having second thoughts about posting the video, Here's a screenshot of the van driving over the top of the Hyundai. The Hyundai got shoved about 5 feet forward. The undercarriage passed inches from my neighbor's head, if she was taller she might not be here now.

The video did work. I got distracted so couldn't respond.

She's very lucky.

I'll assume he was on his phone, since Zorba hasn't already said it.

I'm thankful your neighbor had the video to back up their claim.

I installed a dash cam a few months ago and my first big trip I witnessed an SUV and truck racing at 80+ mph and one rollover. I called it in to the police and they didn't want the footage even when I followed up with a 2nd phone call.

Shout out Kansas City Police department!

OK now that this case is settled and my neighbor is recovered I can post the full video. I had refereed her to an attorney who is a fishing buddy of mine and he did right by her and got her a very generous settlement. Fortunately the teen age driver was driving his grandmother's car and her insurance was above the required state minimum enough to provide a decent settlement. Keep in mind this woman is 70 years old at the time. Also this is a good time to review your insurance policies, state minimums don't cover much and if you don't have high limits on your uninsured and underinsured you could face hardship even when you are not at fault.

Distracted drivers is a big peave of mine, being a biker.
3 years ago, I had 3 cars come over the yellow line in one week while I rode to work. It was just a few feet over and then they corrected in each case but wow!
Makes BrownBear very angry.

I ride as well but I refuse to use the 3 foot wide bike lanes at the edge of the right lane on major streets, I see way too many people driving in it. Instead I use our local bikeways and side streets.

I can appreciate that but I ride a big H-D Electra-Glide and i ride on left line.
Scary at highway speeds but also on pedal speeds. We both have zero protection out there.
Be safe.

Distractions are the major reasons for collisions, yet manufacturers build vehicles that require you to “distract” from the roadway to perform simple operations on an LCD screen. How do the gub’mint regulating entities allow that?

The Europeans are actually trying to do something about it, now docking a car's safety rating if it has a touch screen.

When my wife was doing her clinicals for her RN, she worked a few weekends at the hospital ERs in the north GA mountains.

Every weekend they had cyclists with road rash, either from their own stupidity (winding mountain roads are apparently a hoot on a sport bike) or from someone crossing the centerline (winding mountain roads are apparently a handful when you're driving a land barge SUV and expected to stay in one lane).

They also had a couple of organ donors.

A friend of mine lost his left leg because a lady in a Suburban decided that she needed his lane more than he did.

I had a fast bike years ago. Had many close calls from distracted drivers.

Nowadays I would not even consider one.

Way too many brain dead and distracted idiots on the road now.
