So I was told that alot of vehicles run different ratios front vs rear in axles. Makes me think and im having trouble wrapping my head around this. In this video he is running a common axle combo we jeepers run a Ford 9in in rear and dana 44 front but he has to run different ratio for it to work properly.

redneck "wisdom", or in other words, complete nonsense.

The ratio is the ratio. It doesn't matter if your ring gear is 9" or 9 feet, if the ratio is 3.54 then the output will turn once for every 3.54 turns of the input. Period.

The reason it works is because you use 4wd on slippery surfaces so the slipping can relieve the bind. You can't tell the difference between 3.50 and 3.54 with counting turns or paint marks because you're talking about 1%, which is probably less than the slop in the splines.

It's not for it to run properly, it's because that's the closest ratio available for the differential. Sure, it's tough to notice a 1% or less difference manually rotating the input. On a 33" tire, that's just about an 1" difference in tread rotation.

His tire size comparison makes no sense as regardless of ring gear size, you are rotating a shaft.

the video is clearly wrong.

that said, even with identical front and rear ratios, your tires must have some deviation in their rotation speed unless they have exactly the same diameter. considering variances in air pressure, tread depth, and weight distribution, this would be almost impossible to achieve.

Jesus yes, Rick will need to put on shoes.

To give you guys a point of reference, this guy was standing in front of the waffle house counseling some dude- and he had on sandals. I was like
…..uh, no.

I don't think the sandals were the problem in this scenario. I think it was the "in front of the waffle house counseling" part. Waffle House is not for counseling or improving my life. It is for eating way too many calories of questionable food prepared by questionable people and possibly getting ring side seats to a tweaker fight!

True WH story......growing up, my family got to Waffle House one morning for our waitress to say "I'm just glad we were able to open. There was a fella shot in here around 2am and the cops just left." 😂

I love waffle hut mmm. That's where I learned how to cook too

Hey hey now Southerner, some of our garages get really cold

Luckily I hung up my insulated Carhart's when I moved here, and I can get away with a small electric heater to keep the garage at room temperature. Winters were no fun in an uninsulated detached garage in Chicago for the years I was there, even running torpedos.

Hey this guy's got a heater too! I just use a little 20$ electric heater too to take the edge off.

But I'll work outside when I have to (which is currently always)
