Diff sliders - yay or nay?

I have considered welding pieces of plate to the bottom to make a ramp. I've seen a few Jeeps stopped on the bottom lip.

I go back and forth... I added one on the new jeep after I blew out the pinion yoke stuck on a rock with my old tj. Granted I had a few buddies on the rear bumper which probaly didn't help, but we were young and dumb.

I do get hung up a bit more, but it also adds a layer on protection to the rear pinion.

I find myself doing the same thing. I lose a bit of ground clearance and it adds a fair amount of weight, BUT i love knowing especially my rear DS yoke is uber protected, since that’s the driveline that’ll get me off the trail, on the road and back to home/hotel/campground, etc.

Isn’t there a hardfacing rod just for this purpose? Did you guys use something like that, or general welding wire?

I wonder how the weld compares to AR500? Any idea?

Working in the foundation drilling industry, I use hard facing on everything. Casing, core barrels, augers, it all gets hard facing. It has been very effective when drilling in areas with high ksi ratings. Often times it outlast the carbide wear bits as its has a better hold.
I think I might copy this method once I need to beef up.
