Custom Phone Holder Build

This is the main reason for why my ECT, Transmission (temp), IATs, and Boost pressure gauges are in the lower A-pilar area. Your setup is very nice.

My eyes agree. OEM head unit screens many times look like an afterthought (like a tablet protruding up/out of the dash). I assume the major car manufacturers would do it a better way if they practically could (accounting for variables such as safety concerns and costs...etc.).

Side note: I added my dash photo mainly so I could subtly send JMT my love. I hope he gets my message.

Hmm…I don’t know.

Looks really nice Andy...sorry for your loss.

Thanks man Steve was a fantastic guy. Kidney failure is a terrible disease.

You know this is a reminder to me and everybody else- Slow down and take enough time to make sure you really do something for somebody else.

And here is what I mean- It is easy to tell yourself that you give. It is easy to think of yourself in the best possible light. But can you sit down and write down or pull up a picture of something that you did for somebody else that was not an exchange of money for part of your every day job.

Why?

Because when they are gone you sure won’t have the chance. And you will be so thankful you did whatever little thing that you did.

I’m not preaching and I’m not admonishing anybody- I’m really talking to myself: We live in a world where you can spend every waking moment going after what you want and looking after what you get.

Don’t get sucked in.

Or vice versa and just get screwed repeatedly.

I don't have those problems because almost no one pays me lol. I get what you mean though.

We only get to do this life thing once, so make it count.

Well now @AndyG when your from a small town you have to improvise best you can. I have traveled the county a bit and know that in a lot of rustic ( Hillbilly ) areas they have different ways of doing things then we city folk do. But I unlike you would never make fun a guy trying to improve himself.

When I googled fun things to do in Blue Ridge I got this

Blue Ridge GA
Population: 1,233 (2023)
Area: 2.2 mi²

AND the number #1 thing to do was

1. GET AWAY COMPLETELY

Wake up to cool, crisp mornings with a cup of coffee on the porch. After a day of fun and adventure, finish the day in the same spot enjoying a glorious mountain sunset with a glass of wine or sweet iced tea. You may never want to leave the porch, but don’t miss out on the fun of exploring the Georgia mountains

I would be willing to send him this and maybe it would get him on the right path

It should say nice quiet little town with very little crime where people use 5 fingers when they wave. I can still go to town and not have to lock my house when I leave or lock my car doors while there. How many can say that ?

I stayed in your town ~15 years ago on the way when we took a road trip from Gainesville to the Blue Ridge mountains for a hiking/camping trip. Remember it was a pretty little town. Don't remember the name of it anymore, but there was a small diner we ate at and I still remember the house fries, the milk shake, the grilled cheese sandwich and the fresh salad they made for me.

sounds like the village restaurant in town. they closed down during Covid. hate it because they had a great breakfast buffet.

Been very happy with the head unit (imo, the XAV line currently offers the best combination of function and form).

The phone holder has worked well enough for on-road use for about 3 years. It would function better if the bottom left corner was supported.

I wish mine was installed already! I worked hard today so I could give it a go tomorrow.

FWIW, I still use my phone mount even when the phone isn't plugged into power.

How do you plan to store and power your phone while it's wirelessly connected to the head unit?

You use a wireless charger. My phone sits in the wireless charger cradle and automatically connects to Android Auto using my wireless AA adapter. The cradle automatically detects the phone and closes on it or some have infrared sensors that close unto the phone. You just can't constantly move it or the flexible cable will break. My first mount lasted four months. I got better at not moving it, especially the lower area and this new one is six months old and counting.

I understand. There are many Magsafe options available for iPhone users as well.

I asked JMT what his plans were since he doesn't want to mount his phone in the cabin.

Most of the time, I don't even take my phone out of my pocket. I normally swipe my phone when I buy things, and if I put it in the cradle, I tend to forget it in my Jeep. The wireless AA works fine in my pocket, and I always connect my phone to chargers at work and at home. If I want to listen to music though, I normally put it in the cradle. Because, playing music will drain the phone battery about 50 percent in one hour. I try to select a Playlist or Album before I drive for safety reasons.

What interior package is your jeep ? I don't think I have seen that color interior before

I figured it’s a camel tan interior and then he did the flooring and seats.

The white textured floor coverage is a bold move bc it traps in dirt. Which means he likely keeps this thing incredibly clean.

You're correct on the first part. It's just the regular saddle color interior with reupholstered leather seats. I believe that Jeep calls the tan interior, saddle. The interior really doesn't trap in dirt. I think mainly because it's covered by the hard top. I did install white bedliner so that if it gets wet, I can just pull a plug, and drain it. I removed the carpet, so I no longer have to worry about soggy, or nasty torn carpet. We have a lot of soot in the air in California because of all the pollution, so I have to wash the outside at least once a week, but the interior stays clean. I haven't detailed the interior in at least five months.
