I am preparing to purchase more parts, imagine that? Anyway, I going to replace the clutch and while I'm there I want to install a SYE on my NP231 (2000 4.0L manual).I'm being told I need to purchase a CUSTOM MADE drive shaft? Looking online, I see lots of CV drive shafts and none of them are "custom". What is the best way to buy a driveshaft after a SYE install and where to get one?

I think your reading tomuch into the word custom. Any of the CV shaft replacements should work.

Call up your local driveline shop. In your case, custom only means custom length.

jjvw beat me to it.

Have you thought about a super short sye vs a regular sye?

@Glenn Hodges , Are you considering the SYE in order to eliminate vibes?
Will you also need rear upper adjustable control arms or no?

Brief history, Lifted the TJ about 3" and I'm getting some vibration and a little bucking when taking off in first gear. I haven't had much luck with dropping the TC (causes other noises) Anyway, I know I have a bad throw out bearing, so Im going to fix that, but I just want to have as little tilt on the engine (4.0L) and no vibration. I am looking at a short shaft and I have not considered the Rear Upper Control Arms. Should I get the Short Shaft? and What should I do with the Rear Upeer control Arms? Let's get this done right!!!

You have to tell us more about the lift. At 3 inches you would have to have changed the control arms for it to ever work correctly. All those spacer and shock kits do is make a mess...

Give the fine folks at Tom Wood's Custom Driveshafts a call I've been using Tom's driveshafts for something like 16 years now and I think I'm probably on my 6th TW driveshaft by now. Tell them you want sealed Spicer 5-1310x u-joints which are an extra-durable problem-free and stronger u-joint for the OE Spicers that are in your driveshafts now. No need to grease them either, they're a great u-joint for the driveshaft.

If Tom is there, ask to talk with him for your order and please tell him I said hello. He's absolutely the nicest most patient gentleman I've ever met. No one surpasses the pre and post-sales support there. You don't need to know anything about it, they'll walk you through the process and you'll have your new driveshaft in just a couple days. :)

I would think the opposite, for example, knowing where some products are made/supplied from seems to matter to a lot of folks. ie: Revolution USA made Dana 44 shafts seem to be more desriable...I get it, I buy into it.

Knowing Tom by name, do you happen to know if he uses domestic metals to build his driveshafts? Where does he source his drivehaft components like the slip yoke, slip stubs, and (CV) weld yoke ends from?

Are they Dana Spicer? I never noticed if his parts like his CV H yoke is or isnt stamped with the Dana/Spicer diamond..looks like a cheap casting to me. Does he source his driveshaft materials from overseas like China or Korea?

Some people might think all shafts are built equal...not so much

Ignore that one is dc and one is not, look at the over all build quality detail...

I see a 2.5" OME lift and SYE dual cardan driveshaft in my future. I would like to know if you have to remove the tcase from the Jeep to install the SYE kit. I assume you do, I assume that the tcase has to be split in order to replace the output shaft for the SYE.

It can be done with the t case in place. There are many YouTube videos showing the process.

There are those who suggest leaving the t-case in makes parts of the job easier. Like taking the yoke off the front side.... Youtube has a couple of videos of it being done. Almost all have a lift. I think Ian from Xtreme 4x4 did one in a driveway.
