Hi all I have a 1997 Jeep wrangler with the 4cyl I keep having to replace the crankshaft position sensor pretty often. I have taken it to a Jeep specialty off-road shop and all they seem to do is replace the crankshaft position sensor. I have done it multiple times with OEM sensors and even replaced with a couple off same jeeps from junk yard, i have done a lot of work to this jeep but it always seems to come back to it failing and when i replace it, it starts running again. I have looked at the forums and can’t find any that’s help my problem, have done spark plugs, plug wires, new distributor, battery reads good on voltage. Haven’t done the actual ignition coil but lots more work has been done too, close to I think all sensors have been on throttle body side.

I have a P1391 and a p0138 symptoms wise it’s normally like a limiter at 2900 right now but it changes each time sometimes worst it will wanna bogg out or stall out between 1st and 2nd, I also have had it when wheeling on the rubicon it has done it two different occasions and both times been a crankshaft sensor it will heat soak and just not want to start after it either is not letting you go over 1000rpms or you turn it off and it will not want to start for hours.

Your profile lists an AX-15...you sure it's not an AX-5?

What brand of CPS are they using?

Need a good Rubicon pic of your Jeep! Couple of forum members ran it last summer...we need to plan another run...

Clearly a ground that is providing too much amp to your sensor... polish all your grounds. The shop not realizing this means they are just farming you for money.
