I have a 1999 Jeep tj and when I cut my jeep completely off it still has constant power. I can turn my windshield wipers on and I can turn my radio on. I have gone through to many batteries it’s time to find the problem. Any thoughts and what could cause it to have constant power even when it’s complete off?

Hi Master Yoda, long time no see.

Is this a recent problem that just poked it's ugly head into your life? Is the Jeep new to you?

A few more details could help.

My first thought goes to a malfunctioning ignition switch, but that is speculation at this point.

Say hi to Qui-Gon for me, he hasn't been returning my calls.

yes i can start my jeep and pull the key out
When turning the Jeep off, try turning the key one less notch. My key comes out in any position, and it's easy to go past the off position into the accessory notch.
I have a switch for a set of lights that has a red led that stays on anytime the Jeep has power. I always check to make sure that light is out.

This is what happened to me. I made a new key that had sharper edges and wouldn't pull out unless it was in the off positiin. Then replaced the lock mechanism.

Before tgat I would check if it was on accessory by flipping the wiper switch and turn the tumbler just a little to off. But that was too easy to forget.

It's a poor design having the accessory down past the off instead of up near start like most every other car out there.

Get a new key made and order a replacement lock. It's a cheap fix.

Showing your (young) age here. I come from a time when almost every car made had the accessory position one click backwards from Off(or Lock) like our Jeeps. I've had more than one vehicle where the ignition switch was a simple on/off switch with a separate button or pedal to actuate the starter.;)

Yup. How soon before people forget about keys? 🤔

I have similar issue but my radio won't turn off unless when key removed I have to move wiper switch to high and then off. Then and only then does stereo turn off.
