Console won't open

Hi Y'all. I'm new here and appreciate the knowledge you share. I'm hoping I can get a little help with my little problem.

I bought a nice little 98 TJ. I drove it home and wasn't able to open the console lid. I assumed maybe the PO had rekeyed it and it was locked or something. I checked with him and he said it is not locked, just sticky. I futsed around with it yesterday and got it to open and close several times. I tried to open it today and it won't open.

The latch handle feels like it's pushed in. I tried prying gently with a screwdriver and spraying it with lock-lube. No joy. I'd rather not tear up the console if there is another way to access the latching mechanism to free it up.

While pushing in the latch, push really hard down onto the lid as well. And maybe try it after it warms up above freezing down there.

I beat the heck out of the lock button release and the spring finally came free. The console opened. I lubed the latch and it seems like it will work. Thanks so much dbdd1.
