I have an 01 TJ. I was just driving and all of my cluster backlights shut off. Non DRL. Headlights and turn signals work, interior lights still work but my whole dash is blacked out. I have changed the cluster bulbs twice before. Head unit still works as well and lite up brite when the lights shut off. Don't have access to checking fuses at the moment but just wanted opinions. Should I be checking fuse 10 and 12? If i missed anything to help answer the question please let me know. Thanks in advance. I can upload pictures later.

That's the issue I had a few years ago.

Have you pulled the cluster yet?

Easy to do. Clean the contacts on the back. A dab of dielectric gel and you might be good.

Haven't pulled the cluster yet. Just changed the fuses and still doesn't work. Is the gauge cluster and the hvac backlights connected?

01 is when the cluster illumination became controlled by a chip on the cluster rather than direct from the dash mounted lighting switch used on earlier models.

If the tail and front marker lights still work then the cluster/HVAC backlight circuit in the cluster may have a burnt out PCB track.
If that's the case, the cluster can be repaired using jumper wires soldered across to bypass the burnt track.

The alternative to that is to run the cluster/dash illumination at full brightness when lights are on by tapping the marker lamp feed to the dash lamp circuit. That would be the black/yellow wire at pin 4 of the cluster C1 connector, to the orange wire at pin 6 of the cluster C2 connector.
