Changing from 2WD to 4H

Yeah… I live in a valley in the middle of the Cascades. Snow driving is part and parcel of life 6 months out of the year. Definitely not climbing up out of the valley on unplowed roads at 0-dark 30 in 2WD when I can pull the lever. Yes, 4WD can get you in trouble if you think it’s a cure all for compact snow and ice and do stupid things like 60 or tailgate the plow truck. Best to leave that to the weekenders in their Trail Rated Minivans. Someone has to keep the tow companies busy pulling them out of the banks and ditches.
Well said mushdog! I'm lea in my texas plates on my jeep this winter so that others will assume I don't know what I'm doing and stay the hell away from me lol. I have been utilizing 4H intermittently and it has been perfect. Forgot what the old girl was capable of. In fact doing a rescue mission to auburn tomorrow to deliver food and covid tests. And definitely driving carefully. Everyone else can zoom and skid around me!

Lol I feel like my thread turned from a basic "yes, switching from 2WD to 4H several times in one trip can cause some sort of damage " or "no it's fine" went into a whole lot of something else entirely. I have been educated and amused by all the responses (sorry not really a social media person) thanks all for your help

Welcome to the forum. Threads here can go epically and unexpectedly sideways, and your question(s) will still get answered. This one’s pretty tame.

Ah yea ease the newbie in. It's all good fun times. I'll probably be asking a lot of stupid questions on here as my jeep has taken very good care of me but not vice versa. I'd blame it on being a dumb girl but I guess that is no longer politically correct 🙃

Wish I had some snow & ice! too hot to go out past 7am where I live, Perth has been well over 100F for the past 6 days, I could fry an egg for breakfast on my driveway!

A lot of questions can be answered by checking out the Jeep Wrangler TJ Resources section of the forum:

You can also use the Search function to see if a particular question has been discussed before. Lots of knowledge on this forum.

I use 4wd often on snowy and icy streets. Never thought twice about it. And I don't constantly shift in and out if I hit a dry patch. That's dumb.

There have even been a few occasions where I have used lockers on city streets during heavy snow falls.

Understand how things work and use everything you have available to get you where you need to go.

Holy crap! Yikes no thanks I'll stick with sliding around in the snow. And not worrying about getting killed by some monstrous AU creatures 😄

Somebody needs to find the little video that was just posted for all the rigs on Baldy Rd. Perfect illustration of what you just described.

It’s Australia. Shouldn’t you be grilling shrimp on the driveway? 🤣
We don't have shrimp? We have "Prawns"! Shrimp means small to us so Jumbo Shrimp sort of makes no sense to us lol Tiger prawns are the Best!
