The BMW would be a parts cost nightmare at the 10-15 year mark but a Tesla to me would be like an iPhone 7 at that time, essentially without value and I’d just hope it still did what I needed it to, no point in replacing components.
I'm with you on that. Sadly, I think most modern vehicles, 2010-ish and newer, will fit into that line of thinking, totaled by maintenance parts/labor cost, not actual mechanical failures. Obviously, some will be prone to more, like the BMWs. I am curious about what will happen to these EVs when they finally do brick without any significant market value. There's an early Honda Insight sitting under a house at the beach I frequent, and it's been sitting there for a minimum of 5 years now, probably closer to 10. I'm guessing the battery and/or electronics in it died and there's not enough market value to sell it, and the scrapyards probably charge for the battery pack. Disposal of these EVs will be coming soon.
