Can’t narrow down squeaking sound

I think @JKP called it. After looking at it closer, it looks like the outer ring has walked off the inner pulley.

Does it matter that the timing notch in a new harmonic balancer is in a different location in relation to the keyway?

It’s very common for the outer pulley to slip and move the location of the timing mark. The pulley spins as well as walks off the hub.

So the original might not be where it started out at, correct?

It seems like it’s way off from the Dorman replacement, but the Jeep was running fine, other than the squeak. The Dorman has two marks on the front so you can see if the two halves are lined up. I don’t see anything like that on the OEM.

The harmonic balancer fixed the squeak.

Had to make a tool to hold it so I could torque the bolt without turning the engine. I just used what I had on hand. If the long bar would have been an inch or so longer, I could have rested it on the ground instead of the jack stand.

PSA...I didn't get my pulley drawn all the way on my crank. Torqued it perfectly. Didn't find the issue until I was on the Rubicon Trail with @CMBD and it started splitting belts...litterly cutting a rib off.

A few weeks later I started measuring things and my crank pulley was out and 1/8". Used a longer bolt, nut and washer to finish seating it, chased threads and replaced my bolt...threads were shot.

I used a longer bolt to get it most of the way then finished it off with the OEM bolt. Pulled the bolt back out, put a dab of black RTV on the end of the keyway, reinstalled and torqued the original bolt with a little blue loctite.
