Buying a $700 TJ this morning

My scam radar is on high alert, but so far this seller has passed all my tests. And I'm the sort who will inquire on just about every cheap one on marketplace so I usually know how to sniff them out. But if this guy is running a scam, it's something I haven't seen before. Guy is responsive, shared a real address, didn't tell me that it's his brother's jeep who has it out of state, etc. Clean title, runs & drives, says it needs "tire rods" and a tune up. LOL, I'm sure it's perfect otherwise. /s

It has a hard top (which I need) and full doors, which should more than cover our expenses. If it has the 4.10's my daughter's jeep will get them. And we'll see what we do from there. From the pics I can see that there is some rust on the rocker & also the rear control arm mount.....I'm expecting a ton of rust underneath, but I don't need the frame and I don't really care about the tub.

It's about 90 min from me but I have a rare day where i'm fully booked at work, so XJ Buddy (who is technically now TJ Buddy since he sold his XJ and bought a TJ) is heading to the guy. But it's a first come/first serve situation and it sounds like we're going to get there 3rd thanks to stupid traffic on US380.

The one red flag is that the HVAC control is a non-A/C but I see the A/C compressor & plumbing in the underhood pic, and the firewall is black but should probably match the exterior paint.

it has SPORT 4.0 decals but that sure looks like a 4cyl fan shroud to me !

Welp, sold. He told me he had somebody else coming out who was gonna get there before us, our only hope was that they would be scared of the rust and not realize it was a 4cyl.

But dang I needed that “free” hard top.

That thing could be parted out by me for $5,000 + probably get $1000 - $1200 for the top & $800 - $1000 just for the doors & inside door panels alone !!

It came up when I searched shitty, rusted 4 banger needed. To be clear, my 3rd wife's picture came up also.

I didn't search at all, someone must have added a comment or a like, to an existing post, that brought it to the top of "TJ General Discussion" ??
