Bronco vs. Wrangler

Well... the jeep did contribute to the war effort. (Notice the non-capital "j") It wasn't known as the Jeep brand until after the war and Willys started marketing it to the civilian population. Willys, Ford and Bantam all contributed to the original standardized design and when it was all said and done Ford produced virtually half of all the jeeps (GPW's) used in WWII.

So while Bronco may not have the military legacy that the Jeep brand does, Ford certainly did their part.

I believe that the U.S. Army owns the original patent for the jeep.

I think so too - its a bit more "portly" which makes it more like a Scout and less like a Bronco - OTOH, it also pays homage to the Iacocca front fender creases.

The biggest problem Jeep will have is matching price points. Mainly because the F150 has huge sales numbers and they can therefore piggyback some of the drivetrain cost reductions into the Bronco lineup.

Price is definitely a big plus, when compared to the Wrangler!

I need to replace my Xterra by this time next year. [Truth be told, I don't need to I want to.]

The top contenders as of today only are the Ford F150 Supercab 4x4 w/ 6.5' bed and the 2021 4-door Bronco..

The new Bronco matches up better as a direct replacement for an Xterra, and would be a better daily driver, but the truck can tow my LJ and there is a lot to be said for the utility of a pickup. I saw several F150's set up as long range overlanders when I was in Baja last year. I also live in a rural county where there are more pickups than Cadillacs and the closest Mercedes dealer is at least 150 miles away. The doctors and lawyers drive high end luxury pickups around here.

Enough burning holes in my pockets with the money I don't have for today. Its all wishful thinking. None of us may be able to buy a new car after the November election anyway if it goes the wrong way.

I'll own a Bronco about 10 lifetimes before a JL will ever cast a shadow in my garage.

Lots of Jeep huggers in this thread, which I get, cause it's a Jeep enthusiast forum, but let's be honest...Jeep has been full steam ahead on selling out their own heritage for more than a decade now. It's approaching Harley-Davidson levels of selling a culture instead of a product. The people that care about the heritage are still driving TJ's and older, they're not buying JLs.

Maybe I'm biased having owned more than half a dozen Fords including 1 full size Bronco and 3 Bronco II's...but I see this taking a bigger chunk of Jeep's ass than a lot of you seem to. It'll probably start with the Ford fans that have been begging for a Bronco for 25 years, but once they get out out on the road where they're seen on a daily basis it'll start pulling the mall crawler and soccer mom crowd away from JL's, which is the crowd that justified continued Wranglers after the TJ. Who knows, the competition may actually force Jeep to release something I might be caught dead buying.

Just look at what happened the last time Ford put a target on an Italian company. ;)

Frankly, the Bronco is ugly. Like... REALLY ugly.

Don't like the retro fins on the hood, the windows to door ratio is bad (doors too tall/windows too short), etc.

This is not a vehicle I would ever purchase.

I'm not sure how you can say you don't like the JL then say you'd buy something bigger over it. Styling difference or something?

There are Jeep huggers here, but oddly a lot of Ford guys hyping a vehicle that exists on paper only. It's really no different at this stage then the Jeep V8 concept vehicle. You can't buy either, only stare at stats on a page and hope it lives up. I agree that Ford will sell a lot of them and it will cut into Jeep sales. People will spend $40-50,000 on average for them to drive around town as status symbols with the doors off, posting photos about "Ford Life" on their facebook pages resting their feet on aftermarket foot pegs.

I'd rather own a Ford F250 then the Bronco or JL if I'm going to buy something that big.

I'm not sure what Jeep can come up with to stay relevant with the hardcore Jeepers and still exist as a company. The 4 door JK/JL and now Bronco show you exactly what the market is at this point. Upper middle class suburban drivers and soccer moms who want to pick the "off road" or "snow" button on the dial. The more Jeeps cater to off road people the more they will lose sales to the Bronco. They'll likely cater to the same whims of flash, fashion, and comfort as the new Bronco. Bigger screens, driving modes, sensors everywhere, infotainment options and USB plugins, etc., etc. Then round off the body and take away the Jeep fenders so the new thing is more aerodynamic and cram a V8 in it.

You probably wouldn't buy what they have to offer if they update it or go more retro.

That's that entire "high beltline" nonsense that has been the fad for the last 15/20 years or so. Do not like. My perspective is simple: Its a repackaged JL with a few niggley differences. Like any other new/newer vehicle, its overloaded with technology and my ever hated touch screen. I wouldn't be caught dead in either as a result. Jeep will continue to do well. So will Bronco. They'll try to outdo each other with more electronic crap - but maybe a few more REAL enhancements will slip through (Read: JL with 392 V8). *shrug* Its not my world anymore...

:ROFLMAO:

Ferd cared so much about their own heritage that they released the abomination known as the Bronco II and then killed the model all together.

FCA JL cannot compete with the Ford Bronco with this new design and so, Jeep's ass will hurt for a while.

I will see the global market will get flooded with the new Ford Broncos, in the contrary, market for the new JLs are sadly limited to USA (mostly in Toledo).
