Bellhousing indexing?

I’m turning the corner on a transmission replacement; 3550 to Novak x15. Ended up replacing rear seal along the way as well, but that’s irrelevant. I put on a LUK clutch and flywheel and am ready to start putting it back together, finally.

Novak said it’s important to dial-in (index?) your Bellhousing. All the articles I’ve read, videos I’ve watched are non-Jeep. Those Bellhousings have a very round/symetrical opening on the transmission side… I don’t understand how I would accomplish this, even if I did have a dial gauge.

Question is… do I need to? Same engine, same Bellhousing…. BUT, new/different transmission.

I’m a novice …either brave or stupid, but any advice would be appreciated.
