Basket's Build

With my automatic I've only maybe once wished for a deeper gear. It's amazing how slow it will crawl down or up something.
Ah okay. Do you think it'd be low enough if you were worried about stalling?
This is where it's hard. If you have a crawler case then those times you want taller gears you're limited to 4wd High range. And your only options for multiple gearing is expensive. Be it a Atlas 4 or a Hero box.
When I've looked into crawler boxes, they are close enough to the Atlas that I can't imagine why you'd go that route. Atlas is what, 4-5k (the two ratio one) and a crawler box is 2-3? and then you have to deal with a shorter driveshaft, less ratios, etc?

Maybe I'm missing something. It has been a while since I've looked.
Most guys I knew had 5.71 axle gears I think but had the double t-case. I only knew one who had a triple case.
triple case lol. Bet that wheelbase is nice sometimes
Yes see if Ryan will let you drive his LJ. He has a RubiCralwer so you can really see what low gears are like.
Even if it's only around the parking lot.
Yeah, maybe I'll have to try it. I think the real question is if I can go low enough to keep the manual - once you get an automatic, a lot of the problems I'm trying to solve via gearing for the manual just no longer apply

Didn’t you ride up hells gate with me? If I had it in low low we were something around 107:1.

Guess it was Aussie Nick.

I wouldn’t plan on a manual. Enjoy life and swap to an auto.

Yeah, I guess I was kinda theorycrafting what I'd do if I can't find one. I haven't seen a single one for sale, ever.

I guess I can try calling those "all makes models transmissions and engines" resellers I see on facebook marketplace and see if they have any, but I bet they'll charge an arm and a leg. But I guess with how rare they seem to be unless it's like over 2k it's probably reasonable

You could put 8 cylinders in front of it too.

Eh, honestly looks kinda awful and not very affordable cramming a v8 into this platform tbh lol. Maybe a stroker, one day. Inline 6 is cool.

Plus I'm already kinda halfway through another motor swap ATM

There are more affordable options.

You can do the suspension, tires and gears first. Then see what you want to do.

Yeah I suppose. I thought gears would come first. Doing tires before the gears will make it suck to drive, and it's in a good place right now. And the ratio I want is different between transmissions

It’s probably not the best option.

Have Rick plan you out a magnum swap it’s likely the easiest and most cost effective option if doing more than a tranny.

It's kinda the same problem, you're looking for that bellhousing from the manual V6 Dakota that they only made for a few years...

You have it shipped to a dock nearest you and go pick it up. Or they'll deliver it to your home but charge you an additional fee.

Okay I guess that isn't too bad really. Idk why I thought that'd be a bigger deal. I'll end up buying one of the cheap ones lol. There is a super detailed rebuild guide for them floating around somewhere I think...

Try calling some of your local transmission shops and see if they have one or know where to get a core to rebuild.
