AX15 shifter options

So please point me to some intel on the venting issue.
Does the gear box lose fluid? Where does it leak from and where would this leak be visible? I don't have any visible leaks.

I mentioned it in my posts - on mine the lack of a vent on the B&M would push fluid past the shift tower gasket. I checked and redid it like 5 different times. Continued to do it until I drilled and tapped a vent in the base of the B&M which I tied into the t-case vent line.

You would see the leak by looking through the hole in the floor at the top of the transmission around the shift tower.

I wonder if someone makes a hollow stud that could be used in place of one of the four bolts.

Wouldn’t work.

Alright, now I am concerned.
With all the transmission & clutch problems I have had in the last ten months (and the amount of money I have had to spend trying to resolve them) I don't want to be ignorant to this.
Is the transmission going to be running low on lube?
Any chance there is a How To for adding this vent? Some pictures of the end result maybe?

It’s not that big of a deal. It won’t lose enough fluid to matter. On mine I would sometimes get a whiff of GL4 and it made a bit of a mess so it annoyed me enough to do something about it. I looked through my photos because I had some at one point, but that was so long ago that they are gone by now.

Theoretically it vents through the shifter seal.

No issues with mine.

Just one more thing to keep track of.
Thank you both.

Nothing to keep track of, it just needs a place to vent with fluid expansion during fluctuating temperatures. The stock one vents through the shifter housing itself. The B&M and other aftermarkets just need a vent tube installed, pretty simple thing to do before you install the shifter and then you forget about it.

Installed and test drove the cosmo short throw shifter today. Fantastic upgrade for the money. Had to purchase rubber dust boot and clip separately from core shifters. Overall i would recommend if you are on a budget. Their website says there will be some sort of tariff on current purchases to USA.

Glad to hear you liked it. I ordered one myself from Cosmo Racing. Also, just ordered the rubber dust boot and clip from Core Shifters. Already received the shifter and after reading the instructions for it, they recommend the B&M dust boot. Just rebuilt the transmission and saw this thread at the right time to try out something new.

I just packed the top inside with a healthy amount of lithium, wiped off excess. I used the same gasket that was already on my tranny (being the tranny is brand new) but i also ordered one of their paper gaskets. I used the sickspeed knob that i had on my last shifter. The aluminum knob is nice, but it looks cold for us northerners.

I just had the AX15 + B&M pulled from the Jeep and there wasn't any leaking at all.

Not sure why some would leak and not others. Its clearly something many have experienced because it is on this forum as well as product reviews on the internet. Perhaps whether of not it can vent through the pivot ball in the shifter.
