I borrowed it from the neighbor. He overbuilds everything! 3/16 wall 2x2 tube. He made it about 4” too long to put in the bed and close the tailgate. So you reverse it and hang the hitch side over the tailgate.
(Not bitching as it worked well)

Kinda looks like a farmer has to learn many tricks on their own . Rural folks have to be self sufficient , doesn't matter if you're in the mountains , plains , river bottoms , or farm and ranch land . Color me not surprised at all .
I stumbled on that a few years back.
I’m sure not opposed to learning new tricks.
Growing up on a farm in a small town with land miles from home and old equipment with no cell phones, I’ve been there and done that.
My truck has low tie down points just in front of the tailgate that work so I can’t say I’ve needed to hook to the tailgate but I hadn’t seen it done before either.
