Anybody up for a random meme dump?

The seatbelts and secondhand smoke ones show just how retarded parents were that we needed “to survive” them.

My Dad was career LEO and instilled seatbelt use in all us kids. Friends would freak when I started the car and buckled up, as if they were about to be subjected to extraordinary “automotive activities”. So apparently seatbelt use was not a commonly practiced thing in the average household back then. Also worked in a locally owned store with a chain smoker owner, which was very common back then. I’m guessing you had a different experience growing up?

Poly vinyl chloride , it's not just for breakfast anymore.

Most of the hoses were some kind of rubber when I was a kid - but some tasted more "hosey" than others. Us kids knew where every remotely located faucet was in our little rural valley, so we could always get a drink directly out of the faucet in several places. We were also VERY careful to make sure we turned the water off when we were done!

Honestly , if you let the water run for a few seconds to get the hot water out of the hose , I believe the "health risks" would be much lower.
Since I grew up in the Rockies , and had natural environment yards , we only had hose drinking experiences at my Grandma' s and a great uncle's place maybe once a month. And you're 100% right about making sure the hose was off ! In our house an ass beating could come your way for not paying attention to the details . The 60's were a interesting time to grow up .

That was standard practice when drinking from the hose. No one likes drinking hot water. Plus you had to flush the bugs out of the hose before drinking. I once saw a lizard blast out of one.

Totally standard practice - although removing the hose from the faucet was also an option.

We just considered it common courtesy - didn't want to get the neighbors mad and didn't want to fuck anything up for them either.
