I would also smash the whole roll with a hammer and If I had a bunch I would hit the whole box with a sledge hammer.

I did the hammer and single roll. Probably lucky that Dad didn't have a sledge hammer.

We cut open fireworks to repackage into larger ones. I bet if the interweb was around when we were kids, we'd have tried to make our own gunpowder.

We all had guns. My neighbor would drive over holding his on the handlebars of his 3 wheeler.

I'm surprised we made it to 16, let alone to last week when we finally grew up.

No need for the internet - I made my own black powder after seeing that Star Trek episode where Kirk made some using saltpeter, sulfur, and charcoal to fire some diamonds at the giant lizard-man. A quick look in a dictionary gave the proportions and - BAM (literally) - I had a batch of black powder.
