When I bought my jeep, I switched out the factory stereo for a Pioneer MHH-290BT stereo. Nothing fancy, just a single-din aftermarket stereo so I could play music from my phone. It worked great, but about a year after installation, the volume knob stopped working properly. So now I just keep the stereo on full volume and adjust the volume from my phone.

I’m finally tired of doing that, so I’m going to replace it. From some internet research, it is pretty clear that the very common problem is the cheap volume knob uses a variable resistor (potentiometer), which involves 3 metal contact “wipers” on the back of the knob which move against a contact disc to change the volume. Problem is, they get dusty/dirty/corroded easily and then stop functioning. Some people have mixed results with disassembly and using contact cleaner on the contact areas. But the consensus is that the problem will recur, and it is due to the cheap and poor design of those volume knobs. I don’t even get my jeep that dusty or wet, so it shouldn't be happening.

Anyway, I’m looking for any recommendations on a single-din stereo unit that anyone here has been using for at least 2 years without issue. Apparently higher-end units use digital volume control rather than using a potentiometer, but none of the models I see on amazon and elsewhere list that information.

Jensen "rugged". A good quality pot will last for many years, but I think these have a digital. In any event, very rugged, bombproof car stereo. Available with and without a CD player. Mine doesn't do bluetooth, but they make them that do.

Thanks. Yes it’s looking like Jensen has “heavy duty” models. A little pricey, but should hold up a lot better. Some even use button volume controls rather than a failure-prone knob. High chance I get one of these

I personally detest button volume controls (and tuning!), but even those beat a touch screen.

Ok - I just went out and checked mine - it *IS* a rotary controller, not a pot, so it should be GTG.
