A Story of Indecision and Frivolous Spending

I think at some point you just have to start driving your Jeep and enjoying it. I can see why your wife doesn't understand why you spend so much money on something that just sits in the garage. As much fun as it is building a Jeep, it is more fun to go out and enjoy it. It is much less stressful when you just have a Jeep that you can get in and drive. I haven't done a significant upgrade since February 2016. I've just been enjoying my Jeep for the last few years.

Maybe implement a mod $$$ per mile system where you can only spend $x on mods per mile you drive. Go enjoy your Jeep!

You mean less than $35 per mile? ;)

It's a lot harder to leave someone when you have 3 kids together ;)

Seriously though, what else do I need?
Man I’m just living vicariously through you now. I don’t even need a Jeep lol. I have been logging in every 15 mins just to see what updates you have in store lol. That MasterCard is on fire! You don’t need anything haha don’t tell her that 😅

Haha, yes, it changes every 15 minutes just about.

@Chris this is an addiction....we can help you 😆

It really is an addiction. But, once this is all done, at least the entire underside of the Jeep will be 100% the way I want it.

I just honestly hope when you get this “done” you don’t look at it and go...I really wish I had an LJR...😄

Naa, I can be sure of that. I actually really like the short wheelbase TJ. Plus, with the way my garage is setup, I'm honestly not sure if I'd have room for the LJ anyways. The garage is just so small, and with my toolbox and everything else taking up room, even the TJ is packed in there.

Still, that white LJ on eBay was just an absolute steal. Can't believe he sold that for 40k.

One of my favorites I’ve seen even tho it wasn’t a Rubicon.

Yeah, but even if it had been a Rubicon, there was literally ZERO parts left on it that would have been Rubicon parts. The axles were gone, the transfer case was gone... only the sticker would have been left.

What do you guys think? Remove the A/C or keep it?

With the supercharger in stall, I have the option to keep it. However, it definitely makes things more tightly packed in there.

I got to thinking that maybe I should just remove it? I've literally never used it once since I got the vehicle... not once.

I always tell myself, "one day I'll use it", but I'm not sure when that day is? The top and doors literally never stay on during the Summer.

By the way, for anyone interested, here's the supercharger install instructions. Notice how it has the after cooler / heat exchanger, liquid to air cooling, and it's own water pump to power the liquid cooling on the heat exchanger. This thing is seriously bad ass!
If you think you will ever take it on the trails that you are building it for, I would keep it. Thinking you may want to take it to the Rubicon, Moab, or any other number of traills one day to get, dare I say, beat on. All this building and no wheeling at even the stock level, excited to see the trails you tackle with it.

Good point. That's something I hadn't actually thought of. The wheeling I've done up here is all tolerable temperatures, even at slower speeds... but it's Oregon after all. Having lived in Arizona for a number of years, I know what the desert can be like... so you're definitely right.

I'll have to move the heat exchanger somewhere else like under the vehicle in that case. Charles was saying when they mount it in front of the A/C condenser, they've had a few cases of overheating in hot places like Texas. I suspect this is because you have a heat exchanger, on top of a A/C condenser, on top of a radiator.

He was saying the solution to this is mounting it under the vehicle between the frame rails, just like the DeRale transmission cooler is mounted.
That's why they make electric puller fans, much more effiecient solution that would more than likely meet your requirment.

What does the stock fan move CFM wise?

Even the famous budget friendly Ford Taurus conversion works really well, pulling in 4500 CFM from the junkyard.

Ive been looking at this:

While I havnt dug deep into yet, I will probably look for a company that is here in the USA. Although I do lean towards brands who support our "sport/hobby."

My wife has gotten pretty annoyed at me a few times over the years and contemplated her options.

Even if she decided to deploy the nuclear option, we still would be "attached" because of the age of our kids. But so far so good, she has put her finger on the launch nukes button a couple of times but not depressed it.

So you tried to turn your tj into a rock crawler too lol?? 😄

Why did you choose fox over kings? Think I’m going king and would like to make sure I haven’t missed something

The Fox shocks seem to have a good reputation. I thought King only makes coilovers too, or am I wrong about that?

If you look at the Magnum Powers supercharger here, you'll see it comes with an electric puller fan (it's a SPAL unit): https://magnumpowers.com/product/ornare-et/

The reason for this is because since this supercharger has its own drive pulley that attaches to the crankshaft pulley, that extra belt doesn't allow any room for the stock fan. Because of this, you have to convert to an electric fan.

Charles (the guy who makes them) was saying no one has has any overheating issues except for a few guys down in really warm places like Texas or Arizona. This is because the heat exchanger (that cools the charged air) is quite large, and they have you mount it in front of the A/C condenser, which is also in front of the radiator. It makes sense that at that point the radiator is so blocked off, that it's not getting enough air.

So, I was speaking with Charles the other day, and he was saying that the way people have gotten around this is by mounting the heat exchanger up under the vehicle, right where my DeRale automatic transmission cooler will be mounted. He showed me some photos of it, and it looks good. It mounts under there with some brackets he's going to give me, and a small pusher fan attaches to it (again, just like the DeRale). This way you don't have to worry about restricted air flow to the radiator.

My wife will say things when she is mad (just like we all do), but I am making a bit bigger deal out of it than it really is. Truthfully, I don't think it's that she hates the Jeep (because come Summer time, she's always asking to ride in it), it's just that she doesn't understand why I care about it so much.

Believe me, I'm a smart guy, and I genuinely thought there was any chance she would divorce me over this, I would tone it down. That's honestly not going to happen. I'm more or less having fun with the thread title (and giving her a hard time), just because it's one of those "guy things" she doesn't get.

But yeah, it's a lot harder to divorce someone when you have kids, that's for sure. My parents are proof of that. They stayed together until we were all 18, then got divorced. They said they didn't want a divorce at a young age to do any damage to us. Truthfully, as a child, I never even knew they were unhappy. They did a damn good job of hiding it!

Do you have a link for the LJ? That's insanity.

Paul will hook you up with a good tune.

Unfortunately I don’t have it anymore. That thing had at least 120k into it and looked like it had never seen an ounce of dirt

Paul ordered the shocks for me and said they should be here next week with a custom TJ specific tune. I’m very much looking forward to to!

Pretty cool that he’s nearby as well.
