98 TJ SE rear defrost issues

I just swapped out my rear harness in my TJ and added the switches for the hard top since it came with a soft top but the plug out of the dash behind the switch panel didn't fit exactly into the defrost switch and there's no plug for the wiper, i had to cut a small tab off the defrost switch connector to make it fit, i I made sure that I have an HBL fuse under the dash and the relay under the hood but the defrost still doesn't work, do i have the wrong switch or was the connector in my dash meant for something else since it had a slightly different plug? Let me know if I need to check anything or supply further info, not sure exactly what year the current hard top is but it has no dome light and has defrost and wiper in glass.

1998 TJ SE 2.5L AX-5, came from factory with Stone White soft top only but that's long gone.
