Hello.

New to me 98 TJ Sahara. Needs a little work as it was driven by a 16 yr old as her first car.

I have a 1988 YJ and my wife has a 2021 JLU. So I'm interested in getting to know the one in between.

It's got some quirks.

Blinkers work, unless you turn them on with your foot on the brakes.

Radio was staying on with the ignition off, running the battery down. I pulled the radio out, but nothing seemed to be hacked together. Does the radio harness have a constant on source? Edit: I found the constant on wire in the harness.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Next fun thing. What is the rear seat latch supposed to look like? Mine is mangled, and doesn't automatically catch the bar. Also, the bar is not caught in the holder on the fender well. Which appears to also be mangled.

Welcome.

With the ignition off do the wipers and turn signals work? They get switched power from the same part of the ignition switch as the radio.

If they go off, maybe the switched and constant power at the radio are reversed.

If they stay on, the ignition isn't switching properly. The key positions are accessory-off-on start. If the key is coming out in the accessory position the key cylinder might need replacing. I think dorman do a key cylinder that self keys to your ignition switch which simplifies replacement if needed.

The seat is so far from the bracket I'm wondering in the front brackets have been removed at some point and refitted backwards.

Ok. Looks like everything is ok after pulling the stereo. (It has problems with the faceplate anyways) Wipers didn't work with the ignition off. And I was able to start it this morning after two days of sitting. The battery didn't run down. I swapped out the broken blinker housings, and it looks like one of the bulbs has decided to quit working.

Always something.

Good to know the battery isn't draining with the radio out. I don't know if your wiring has been changed behind the radio, but if not, it wouldn't be the first time I've seen a radio that has the constant and switched wires reversed in its connector.

I'm hoping it's just a poor energy use design in the older radio, or possibly some bad connections. It had issues.
