Time to get this junker back on the road. Got an AX5 from a 2000 XJ. Should be a "direct swap." We'll see.

Forgot to post anything. Too busy. AX5 is in. Back on the road for short trips. Tires are shot.

Had to use compression fittings to mate the factory clutch master to the external slave on the new transmission. Looks dumb, works fine for now. Probably going to buy the full swap kit at some point from Advance Adapters.

Core Shifters short throw is pretty nice. It's TIGHT between the gears. Hopefully it'll get a little better with time. It can be a little frustrating to find gears at the moment.

Had to move my mini console up about an inch and use a sheet metal screw to mount it. Not ideal but it works, I guess. Not sure if it's a Comanche floor pan issue or something to do with the later transmission swap, but 0% chance of the mini console working without adjusting the location of it.

Back to having two mobile shitboxes!

Welp. That lasted a good few days. Coolant tank blows coolant out of the lid after more than around 30 minutes of driving. The joys of a Renix Jeep... going to pull the head next week (probably) and throw a new head gasket on, and put some valve seals in an extra head I've got and see what happens. Maybe try and find a different coolant tank. Maybe LS swap it. Maybe call Allstate and tell them a wild amphetimine enthusiast stole it. Who knows.

The Renix system is funky. I had a 1990 Renix XJ (4.0L) and my dad had an 87 renix 4.0 XJ when I was a kid. I wouldn't totally condemn the cylinder head/gasket yet. Can you confirm the thermostat isn't sticking or that exhaust gases are actually getting into the cooling system with a tester? The plastic tanks suck, I think I cracked 3 of them before going to an aftermarket metal tank on my 1990 XJ, and many people just convert to an "open" cooling system.

Or maybe Just tell me where ya hide it and I'll take care/steal that truck for ya 😉.....🤣
(I'm looking for a daily/parts hauler. I gotta stop using my Lj for hauling engines, transmissions, the 2,000 pounds of icemelt boxes it sees every winter for my job lol)

Here's a quick story since that statement reminded me of something. I know a guy who fell on hard times back in '09-10. He decided to sell his toys, one of which was a Harley. He set it out at the road with a for sale sign for weeks and kept marking the price down, until he got to pay off or just below it. When he couldn't sell it at that price, he hatched a plan to have it "stolen" and disappeared, then he'd make an insurance claim. The deed was done, the bike headed out of state and was taken apart and sold. A week or so later the guy I know made a claim for the "stolen" bike, just to find out he had let the coverage lapse a few weeks before. :ROFLMAO:

I'm sure I'd screw up in some way trying to pull off fraud like that.. plus I don't have the heart to kill my innocent Comanche. It can't help it was born from poverty stricken AMC.

Ended up being the clutch fan was completely shot. Could grab the blades with the engine running without turning my fingers into a Vienna sausage.

So fan clutch and pipe thread on the coolant tank seemed to have done the job!
