42RLE overheating

I was hoping there would be more available setting for the transmission in HP Tuners to adjust the TCC and everything, but it's just shift points based on engine RPM.

Sadly, the awful 03-04 shift schedule can’t be adjusted at this time using tools readily available to us like HP Tuners because the TCM isn’t integrated with the PCM like it is in the 05-06. With my schedule adjusted quite a bit, there are times when being in 3 (with OD on) works noticeably better than being in 3 (with OD off) because that extra 150 RPMs I get from not being on lockup works better for the load (e.g., when doing slower climbs in traffic).

Once you push the gas pedal down about half way, it unlocks the TCC. The 4-3 downshift is nearly WOT. Its very mountainous where I live so it's shifting pretty regularly.

I have a device that tracks RPMs and lockup, so I’ll check into the TCC unlocking in 4 with a heavy throttle like you said it does. I’ve never noticed 3 go out of lockup when I’m hammering the throttle in 3 with OD off. However, I get hot in the desert summer when pushing it on the highway in 4 with OD on (doing 80-95 mph). If the TCC drops lockup by design, then I may simply need a better cooler.

Fix your gearing before you get distracted by anything else about the 42rle.

I already spent $800 on the hd gears I've had them for months now just trying to find a reputable shop

If you can't return the 5.13 gears, then I would sell them and get the 5.38s. It's a short term pain that will gain you better gearing for the long term.

Under revving is the problem you are trying to solve, and you won't be over revving with 33s and 5.38s with a 42RLE.
