Hello all! I recently got my LJ to the UK and need to get it wired for European amber turn signal tail lights.

I know US and EU TJs have different wiring for turn signals where the US one only has 2 wires as brake and turn signal use the same wire and so EU lights can not just be hooked up.
Soo...I got some LED lights where the wires are the following;
Black wire is ground
White wire is reverse light
Red wire is brake light
Brown wire is tail light
Yellow wire is turn signal light

From a different forum someone who swapped in EU lights mentioned they did this;

"To stop the amber lights when i pressed the brake, I cut the white/tan wire that went from the brake switch to the multi-function switch on the steering wheel. This way, there were no lights when I hit the brake.

Next, I tapped into the white/tan wire in the rear of the Jeep. This goes to the 3rd brake light. I spliced it to each brake light on the left and right side (the black/yellow wire)."

But this doesnt mention how the turn signal is wired. Am I missing something??

My post near the end of one of those threads shows the connections that need to be cut and spliced.

The brake lights feed through the turn signal switch in the US to make the red turn/stop filament flash.
Cutting the brake lamp switch feed near the turn signal switch Isolates the turn signals.
The center brake lamp wiring then has to be spliced and fed to both sides to feed the new separate brake lamps.

The cuts shown near the rear lamps were due to standard UK/EU lamp units being fitted. you will just have to match the wires to your LED lamps.

If your wiring at the rear doesn't match the colours shown in my diagram, let me know what model year your LJ is and i'll check the colours you should have there.

Hello Jonny,

Do you have the same diagram for the front turn signals ?

Regards

Hello Jonny,

Can you please tell me where I need to make the modifications to the wiring harness ?

I don't. I have actually wired my front turn signals to work the way US TJs had them and never had any issues with my inspection.

If you are changing the wiring to fit export lamps with amber turn signals, the wire from the brake lamp switch to the turn signal switch should be cut near the turn signal switch. This means the wire running to the center brake lamp stays intact.

The rest of the cuts and splices are made near the tail lamp connectors in the rear of the Jeep. The center brake lamp wire can be tapped to supply the brake lamp feed to either side wherever you can best access it. The wire drops down in the rear left corner of the tub with all the other tail light wires, and runs acroos the rear to the two center brake lamp buttons in the right wheel well.

Hello Jonny Jeep,

Instead of cutting " the wire from the brake lamp switch to the turn signal switch ", Can I just unpin the white/tan wire from the Multifunction Switch Harness ?
