2006 door hinge bolts

Looking to replace the door hinge bolts that go to the body, not the door. 2006 LJ. I've been through the thread on this forum, and a few/bunch of the online sites as well, (extreme terrain, etc.). They either all sell kits with the hinges for $80+, or just don't have them listed.
Quadratec was of no help even with a "Live Chat" session. Factory P/N 6504443. Google search didn't help either.

I saw sets that said they fit up to 04. Is this another one of those, 05 and 06 are different, issues?

The main difference is these are allen head, not torx..

The 05, 06 spec'd part is shorter than previous years.

Anybody know if the older, longer part will work?

I appreciate the links, thank you. I have been to most of the sites. I know that I could buy the OEM bolts for $8-15 a piece, but the attractive ones for me are the sets as it keeps the price more reasonable.

If I'm not mistaken, the bolts that hold the hinge to the door are the shorter bolts. I believe these also hold the windshield as well. I am not certain if the bolts to the body of the Jeep are the short ones or long ones though. The pictures show it to be the shorter ones, but sometimes those aren't all that accurate. I also read that the 05-06 Jeeps were different here as well, but don't think the LJ version makes any difference.

I guess I'll pull one out and measure/check it. I'll also check to see how deep the tapped holes are to see if the longer bolts will work as well. McMaster might be the most cost effective way to go with this, Instead of 1-2 bolts for $17, I can have 50..

Quick update, I test fitted the replacement hinges on my half doors with these fasteners...

I'd say these are a win. They fit, don't feel cheap and can be had for a relatively decent price. I had also purchased a pack of mirror screws from the same vendor as I didn't realize the mirrors I purchased came with them. Turns out those screws (that came with the mirrors) were too long for some of the holes. I hadn't yet received the screws from the ebay vendor, but comparing them in length to the factory and aftermarket screws, they might just work. Shorter than the aftermarket screws and longer than the factory. Just occurred to me I didn't take a photo of the mirror screw comparison...

So these are the two size bolts on my 06 LJ that I just pulled out.
The longer bolt has 1/2" of thread, and goes into the body to the Jeep.
The shorter one has 5/16" of thread and goes into the door of the Jeep.
Both of them are "dog point", at about .240 diameter, (just under 1/4")

Note: I have full doors, not 1/2 doors.

This is what happens when I put the longer bolt into the door. It is bottomed out. You can see the torx on these bolts are a bit rusty. That's the reason for me wanting to swap them out...before they get worse. I got three of them out, and then snapped my T-40. At least I know now what I need to purchase.

I wouldn't want to say the door structure in and around the hinge attachment is the same between the two types, though I would have assumed (possibly incorrectly) they were similar...

I can only speak with authority to the above purchase screws and half doors. Next time I pull the door card off my full doors, I'm going to investigate this a bit more.

I was under the impression that the windshield, door hinge, tailgate bolts are the same, (guessing the shorter ones). Some sites do list a different bolt for the body, other sites don't. They do seem to be inconsistent at best. I'd recommend to others, just pull 1 bolt out of each position, then you'll know for certain.

Any SS replacements?

Some of the kits do have SS. Check some of the links others have provided above. I remember seeing them. Maybe the Mcmaster one?

You can prevent that white corrosion in your pic by coating your screw with Tef-gel. It should also be standard procedure if using any stainless because of all of the various compositions with stainless.

That is why the bolt stops short in my picture. The difference in the thread size is small, but enough to notice. I was advised to just tap out the M8 to 5/16-18, and go with the same bolt for the entire hinge. The lead difference is about .005. Some people just screw the bolt in anyhow, and call it a day. The vendor said he won't be getting in the M8 bolts until later in the fall time. I ordered the 5/16-18 bolts.

This is what I was looking for. Just bought a set of these, but then discovered the thread difference.

So, has anyone found a good replacement for the screws that hold the hinge pin plate to the door?

• @chili_pepper found a set that worked on his half doors, but I'm working on some full doors right now.
• According to @Coadster32, these are M8 x 1.25, with just 5/16" of thread, and then a 'dog point'.
• @mudmaster posted some links for $15 each.

Are there really no aftermarket sets? I could use at least four.

Well, Region Offroad tells me that they will provide these someday.

Meanwhile, I found these, and they are a perfect fit. Less than 50¢ each.

@Coadster32, in reply to your post above about other screws being too long, I should say that these are perhaps 0.75mm longer than OEM, but so far I have put two in without any trouble. The same link also offers a 12mm option.
