17" Wheels For Rocks

You may not debead, but you may be rotating the tire on the rim. This gets your tires out of balance.

I’ve only lost two beads on non-beadlocks, but I rotated the tire on the rim many times.

At the end of the day, you solve the problems you have. Being dumb and being an overlander are two unfixable problems I don't have.

One perfect recipe for debeading a front tire I have identified is a low psi with a locked rear end while making a hard turn on Moab slick rock. That will peel off the front outside tire.

Yep

I’ve only found 2 that somewhat fill that don’t look ugly.

I have ended up with 5 jk Moab’s for 75 bucks and 2inch adapters till I can stomach the weight of beadlocks or someone makes a good non bead lock wheel.

This one is cool since you can do no bead lock or bead lock but at the weight added it defeats the advantage of non beadlocks.

Thanks for the suggestions. I like that 305. Was also looking at their 315.

I know of couple guys that run the Method bead grip wheels and they seem pretty happy,Not a true beadlock but they can get to single digit PSI range and not debead like they would running 9 psi on a non beadgrip&beadlock wheel!
Same with the "Icon" rebounds they have bolts that grip the wheel

The bead grip are a strong contender. I did some searching trying to see if it was just a gimmick. People seem to be happy with them. Figure if it lets me go to a lower PSI, could be worth it.

JK wheels with an 1.5" adapter spacer gets you 4.5" backpacking.

I have TJ to JK adapters in the front because it's a TJ width Currie 44. When I got the rear RJ60, I went to JK width, so no adapter in the rear. Running 4.5 BS JK wheels now and they seem to work well, so trying to stick to that.

I figure run the wheels for a while and see how often I actually lose a bead. Possibly add the Fox inner BL later if it's actually needed.

I was also looking at these from Raceline for $250 each. 929M Avenger.

Nothing from Method will go on his rig if I can help it.

And if you break one of the bead bolts, what then?

I don't think the bead grip have bolts that can break. Though noticed their backspacing is 4.75" and 4.8". Many are 8.5" wide instead of 9.

The wheels I have now are 17X9 with 4.5" BS. So probably shouldn't stray from that.

Other than the Coyote pain in the ass to mount, what problems do they cause?

Wrong context. His options are to do them himself, have me do them, or find someone else to do them. I'm out, he is out, so that leaves the third option and I don't know who that would be. He may find someone and I'm completely wrong, possible, not probable.

The Method Bead Grips (not their beadlocks) have several small ribs inside the bead to prevent the tire from slipping off the bead so easily.

I went and looked it up. The problem is he has bead locks now because his other set of rims had the safety bead a tad too close to the outer bead lip. His tire bead never dropped fully into the safety bead area and got pushed off very easily so it lost the tire bead a few too many times. Method just has to prove that their bead seat width is wide enough to accommodate the wider beads some tires have or we are right back in the same boat.

Not arguing that at all, especially as I'm not familiar with his situation. Just clarifying that a bolt isn't a concern with those. I've only heard good things about them, but that doesn't mean they're perfect. And honestly, for the price I would probably just go beadlocks (just my opinion). I've also heard good things about the Icon's but the bolts would concern me a bit. I'm pretty sure each one has an o-ring that would be subject to drying out.
