100MPH?

Not looking to bring out the over protective mother in anyone, yes - we all know it should not be done!

Has anyone had their (non-boosted, non-V8 swapped) TJ up to 100MPH? This is the first vehicle that I have ever owned that I have not driven to at least 100MPH. I may have had it up to 90 once, on accident... very breifly.

My tires are not rated for anything that high, so I wouldn't attempt it

90-95mph, long downhill, I-80 w/b just prior to Evanston, Wyoming......smooth, solid, fairly comfortable, but nothing I'd do on a regular basis....too scary. Thank God, no lift on my TJ X.... :)

This thread conjures up thoughts of a need for some cartoon pics by someone good at it:
Some starter thoughts;

Pic of hair & face blowing back in topless Jeep
Pic of shredded soft top
Pic of hood with face punched through it
Pic of pistons laying all over ground

Me- no- 82 tops on interstate only on all new linkages, joints etc and on long distance (1400 mile) trip each way to mountain trails

Seems like someone on 33's with 3.07 gears ought to be able to be able to better that 100mph goal...eventually...heading downhill... ;)
Only in 4th gear tho. I had this, '87 YJ, 3.07, 33s, Peugeot 5speed. I NEVER used 5th gear. But 4LO on forestry roads and the YJ drove like a Mustang. 60mph in 4LO. I think it topped out on the highway in 4th at just under 100.

Do they let em run track at daytona at that jeep week, at high speeds? instead of just in the parade. medics would be there:)

Well I have to say, when I finally sorted out my front driveshaft double cardan rebuild - I took my Jeep out on an empty stretch of highway and gave it WOT, where I had inadvertently confirmed my suspicion of my clutch slipping after I hit 85. I guess the load at that point was enough for it to give way. #DontTryThisAtHomeKids

I will give it up to good engineering though, I haven't seen too many clutches hang on as this one has. Normally in my experience, when they go - they go!
