Is a new engine my best route? Quoted 4K for my engine repair

Ive had a few V8 engines with a cyl or two having pretty burnt valves and screwed up seats. Those still had compression of some sort. To get 0 makes me think there is hole in the piston or?? Your getting a partial in chassis rebuild for $4000. Whats the miles on the bottom end??

    I'd like some opinions please

01 will have likely a poo poo 0331 head. IIRC 99 is the last year for the AX15 trans. Rust sucks, look inside the frame holes for the real story on rust. Me personally Id buy nothing but a 97, 98 or 99 with a 4.0 and ax15 or the auto in those years is known to be bullet proof.

If PP is anything like is used to be use gloves and dont get it on your paint, at least full strength. Great stuff, but nasty too.

    Death Wobble

Jack it up by the axle with a floor jack, set jack stands under the frame and use some timbers if needed under them for height, remove wheel(s) and lower onto the stands. Thats all Ive ever used to install lift kits etc.You can jack just the axle up to fit shocks or whatever. But...Pull the...

1997 TJ TDI swap transmission transfer case questions

The only thing that switch does is light up the 4wd light. manually shifting it will put it in 4wd regardless of the vac switch being working or not.

Seized driver rear lug studs (axle replacement?)

Its really easy to pull the axles. Do that and then punch or press them out and get new studs pressed in., easy doins.

    1997 Fuel Pump Diagnostic

yes, a hole can be cut in the floor to access the pump. BUT.....and I cant recall on the TJ or YJ, but the ZJ I did the top of the tank was very close to the floor panel. Im glad I dropped the tank first to have a look and not worry about hitting the tank.

New to me TJ rear suspension questions.

Generally speaking TJ sit lower in front than the rear by 1.5" or so. Sounds like somebody did some fiddling with the suspension already. Bigger spacers in front perhaps, new coils??. Pics of the front will help to diagnose what you need.

Where did all this fluid come from?

New breathers can be had from amazon and the like. You can also extend those way up out of waters likely entry point. Well, I should say for most anyhow.

Where did all this fluid come from?

Flood victim Id guess. No way washing it would get that much H20 in the T case. Check the diffs asap also just to be sure.

Transmission cooler as a power steering cooler?

My answer considered stock systems, the PSC is a different animal. For what its worth a well known ford trans engineer has stated as fact a trans cooler will remove heat from a hot trans, but will not add to warm up trans fluids. He provided the test docs to back this up, dont ask how as physics...
