When did you buy your first Jeep, and when your first TJ?

1982: Bought a 77 CJ5 Renegade with a AMC 401, 4" lift and 34's.... most dangerous vehicle I've ever had. You didn't steer it.... you aimed it.

1984: Bought a 76 CJ7

1986 Bought a better 1980 CJ7

1991: Bought a YJ Sahara with just about every option (hated the Renegade with the stupid plastic)

2020: Bought 2005 TJ Rubicon (in the photo)

2021: Bought a 78 CJ7 with a AMC 401. It has a perfect frame and the tub is rust free (west texas 2 owners). Currently in the process of rewiring the entire thing.... West Texas is great for metal..... not for wire insulation.

My first Jeep was a 1943 that I bought in 1968 for $400, I was 16 and had been saving for 2 years to buy it. My brother came back from the Army in 1969 and bought it from me as I had my eye on a 1947 that was in much better condition. There have been several other CJ 5’s, a CJ 7, and 4 Wagoners including 2 Cherokee Chief’s a Grand Wagoner, and one standard since then.

bought my first, only, and current Jeep in 2016, prior to that I never knew thing one about anything Jeep much less TJs, I just knew that once I decided to buy one that the TJ was the obvious, & only, choice among the then existing contestants. I drove it home from the auto tags place where I met the seller & directly into the back yard & took these pictures to memorialize the day. Since then she's been built up, then built back down, but it's been a fun adventure every inch of the way, easily the single greatest 'thing' I've ever had the pleasure of owning:

In 1989 a buddy and I went in together and bought a 1978 CJ5 with a 304 and 3spd. Then in 1991 I bought a 1980 CJ7 with a 6 cyl and 4 SPD. I owned that one for the next 24 years, eventually doing a frame up resto and putting a built 360 in it. That thing was a beast!

But.... At 8mpg it got old feeding it, lol. I finally sold it to a local dealer in 2015 when I bought my truck. I'm proud to say that it's sitting in his warehouse with some of his personal vehicles that he is hanging on to.
I owned several Jeeps over the years but most were just toys that I traded on. I bought my first TJ earlier this year. First thoughts were to trade around with it until we got a newer Jeep but after buying a 2007 JK and trying it out we decided to sell the JK and hang on to the TJ. Don't think we will be interested in another JK or a JL anytime soon.

My first Jeep (and also first car) was 1946 CJ-2A. Bought it in 1978. It had a flathead 4 in it. Eventually I put a Buick V6 in it. That is me driving it in Azusa Canyon around 1980. I would take it out every weekend and break it. Had a blast.

After so many years of driving a commuter car (meaning a car you need but don't want), I finally purchased another Jeep! It is an 05 LJ.

My first Jeep was a very sad but operational 1942 MB that had been hauling logs out of a swamp. It was broken up for parts. Next was a '68 CJ5 with the V6. Third was a 1989 YJ Sahara. I found the transmission (Peugeot) to be a pain and the engine unreliable. An AX15 tranny and a 350 SBC fixed that ! I sold it to make room for a '29 McLaughlin-Buick. After parting with it, I went looking for a TJ and found this sweet '99 fresh out of salt-free BC.

First Jeep was a 84 Wagonneer Limited in 93, 2.8 5spd.
2nd 94 Cherokee sport 4.0 5spd. in 2001
3rd 99 Cherokee sport 4.0 5 spd. in 2002, ( replaced a wrecked new Golf ).
4th 2000 Cherokee sport 4.0 AW 4 ,( a problem child ).
5th 99 TJ sport 4.0 5spd. in 2008 my current Jeep and my favorite
6th 2004 TJ sport 4.0 5spd. in 2011, My wife's Jeep to replace our disappointing 2005 Forester, bought new and leaking head gaskets
at 58,000 highly maintained miles.( Japanese quality my Ass ).
Both TJ have been great vehicles! minimal issues, ( a starter, water pump, fuel pump, rear Brakes, and a unit bearing between BOTH
Jeeps and added 105, 000 to one and 82,000 to the other).:)

1993. Bought a cj, a rough one for my 14 year old son.. to him it was a Cadillac...4 speed manual, bikini top, and if could be cleaned with an air hose or a water hose.. but to him it was a jewel.. at least until he turned 16 and got a pickup with doors..

And now my grandson begins his adventures, with a 97 TJ..

My first car was a 1986 Cherokee 2 door in 1997. Laredo, black with chrome and a tan interior. It was awesome.
after building several daily driver race cars, I went back to a 1990 2 door Cherokee in 2007. My wife has had 4 grand Cherokees consecutive since we got together. Our favorite one was the 2006 with a hemi.
Finally bought my TJ a couple years ago despite having 2 kiddos. I don’t regret getting the TJ over a Cherokee and the funny thing is neither does my family.
