Hey guys, I’m thinking about selling my 1997 TJ and was wondering if y’all could help me figure out about how much to list it for.
It is a 2.5L 5 speed with 93k miles on it. It has a 3in pro comp lift and 3in body lift along with 35in Discoverer MT’s with about 80% tread left on them. Brand new paint job. After market bedrug (anti mold) carpet in it, rough country neoprene seat covers, touchscreen radio with brand new sound bar speakers and 12 Skar Audio sub, off-road front and rear bumpers. The rear bumper has a swing gate tire carrier on it. Brand new soft top, 52in light bar, 3in light cubes, LED halos with RGB rings, RGB rock lights. A Ford 8.8 rear axle has been put into it with 4:10 gears in it and 4:10 in the front as well. It just got a new ECM put in it as well.

I have put roughly 7k into the jeep and I’m wondering if it is even worth selling since I’ve done that much to it. I’m hoping for at least 10k but I’ve been told I won’t be able to get that for it. Any help would be awesome

Strip off as much of the extras as possible. Better if you saved the old bumper etc. Sell the extras, they fit on any TJ.
Then sell the Jeep and you will still get as much as with all the extras.

6k with that grille, 7k without it. Might seem low but it’s a 2.5 and they don’t go for nearly as much.
I have to agree. If the frame and underside are clean I think I’d be happy to get 7k if it was my Jeep

7k looking at it...
6k if they drive it or less.

Driving that will be a slug extraordinaire

It's a 25 year old piece that is being hurt by the fact you've got 35's on a 4 cylinder.

You mention 4.10 gears...well all 4 cylinder models with a stick have 4.10

You won't sell this to a hard-core Jeep person that wants to do some mods to their liking.

Your target buyer is that person who wants a modified look without function.

Now ask yourself this...would you rather buy your Jeep for 10k with it's struggle to hit 55mph in such close quarters
interior wise........

or a nearing 200k mileage JK jeep with a 2 inch lift only, running 35's, still hitting the speed limit, and more passenger room 2/4 door no matter.
Hell you might score one that isn't pristine well under 200k for 10k ish.

Ask yourself that.

My advice to you...

If you still have factory parts.. return to stock as much as you can. A clean 97k jeep even wuth a 4 banger will net you more than one that's miserable to drive.
I guess it just depends on where you are. Just a quick example of some where I am...

Well asking for and receiving are entirely different.

Moreover that one is 7 years newer than the OP's and the other advertised Jeep you show.

A jeep will always have a strong value and even in poor condition still hits a hard floor value wise no other vehicle can compare with. (Closest being diesel trucks)

This is an important distinction. In the end, it's worth what someone is willing to pay. Those prices are all over the map.
The big problem present day selling a 4 cylinder TJ is this...
People that want to really use the Jeep as it's intended purposes don't want a 4 cylinder.

People that want an already modified Jeep are honestly buying JK Jeeps. Christ you can get one now that's 15 years old. Add some mileage and you can find a JK in or even below some of those 4 banger TJ prices 🙄

The same shit happened with YJ's for a while and then people realized it has an antiquated suspension...absolutely zero creature comforts (the TJ has few but certainly a few more)...etc.

***yes there are those that want a woods buggy or hunting vehicle and would take a 4 cylinder but they're going to get one for a quarter at most. (2500)

Strange they didnt sell the 4 bangers in Australia (that I know of) given 4cylinder 4x4,s have always been so popular here? Maybe jeep couldnt compete with the Japanese 4x4 prices or too under powered compared to the other lighter 4,s?
Road tax/license fees and insurance is a lot less for the 4,s over the 6 pots.
