So I have a 33” spare tire that I got an extension for but noticed that the bumpstops don’t come out enough to keep the spare in place on a bumpy ride. I didn’t find anything on this before so I decided to leave it. Now I have a broken mount from all of the bouncing and weight of the spare. What are y’all suggestions?

The extension is the main reason why the mount broke since the extension gave the tire a LOT more leverage against the mount. Those stupid spare tire extensions are something I would ban from this world if I was king of the Jeep aftermarket.

Then again, my '97 TJ's spare tire holder broke just under the weight of a 33" spare tire and there wasn't even an extension required. The factory TJ bracket just isn't up to the weight of 33's without help like a supportive bracket mounted/welded to the bumper.

I'd replace the broken mount with one that is made strong enough for larger tires like 33's and 35's like the Exogate (my preference) or MORyde. Here's a thread on them... https://wranglertjforum.com/threads/morryde-vs-exogate.12152/

No matter what mount/spacer/hinge combo you come up with, you should extend the snubbers to help keep the tire from moving.

I made these with painted black PVC tubing and longer bolts
